Time to change my life

Hello all, my name is Kelly. I am 22 years old and fed up with the way I've lived my life up until this point. I'm sure a lot of you know this feeling. I've hit my all time high weight, and I never thought I would see those numbers even in my worst nightmares. Honestly.. I knew I'd put on some extra pounds, but I think maybe I had been avoiding the truth. When you never go clothes shopping and avoid mirrors, stuff happens without you paying close attention. When I saw photos of myself in a dress from a wedding, I felt so ashamed. I knew I didn't look great, but I really didn't realize it was that awful. After all, I had shed so many tears in dressing rooms in pursuit of a dress that would fit, and that's the one I had found that would zip up! I am what you call a yo-yo dieter. I have been struggling with control issues with food throughout my life, including eating disorders. I do not want this anymore. I think I've come to this point in my life where I am realizing that this problem isn't going to be fixed overnight, or even in a few weeks, and I am not a bad person for it. This is a lifetime change to eating and living the fit lifestyle of a thin and healthy person. Instead of starving to drop weight fast (which I have proved countless times leads to gaining all plus more back), I know I need to actually eat more and repair the damage that I have done to my metabolism. My goal is to drop 1 pound per week. I am somewhat scared that I will want to give up when I don't see the fast results that I have had in the past. I just need to wrap my head around the fact that I am actually doing it right this time and even though I may not see change very fast, it will be the kind of change that will stay. I have also quit smoking three weeks ago after being a regular smoker for about five years (yay!) so I am trying very hard to not gain any more weight. So my weight loss itself may take a while since my body is now adjusting to a nicotine-free life. I already feel so much better physically- I didn't know it could feel this good just to breathe clean oxygen! I am very proud of myself for not just wanting to make these changes, but actually putting them in action. I deserve a good long and healthy life. I am very hard on myself so while I am trying to change my body, I am also working on getting in touch with the real me again and learning how to treat myself better and deal with stress and setbacks. Sadly, I do not really have friends or family who are here to support me with my goals. I would very much appreciate any new friends or weight loss buddies that I can share successes and encouragement with. I will also welcome any tips or advice anyone wants to share. Let me know if you are interested in sharing my journey :)

    Hi,
You're on the right track to making changes! I'd love to join you in this journey. It won't always be easy, but that's what friends are for--to motivate each other! Congraduations on quitting smoking! I as well just quit smoking 2 months ago. I still have cravings, but hey, I figure--if I can quit the cigarettes cold turkey, I can say no to second helpings of turkey (haha)! Add me as a friend and I'll stay in touch. I'm on every day. Remember- You can do it!

I would love to have another person to motivate as well as be motivated by! Congratulations on quitting smoking. I quit 6 years ago and it was the best decision I have ever made. I have been on here 10 days so far. Please add me as a friend.
  • You can do it!!!! Congrats on changing your lifestyle and quitting smoking. I also quit 3 months ago, it was harder than losing weight for me, but I love being able to breathe again ;) Feel free to add me. I am a daily logger.... Good luck!
