What do I do when....

Just a quick question. I'm just wondering what I should do when I get an item that does not have the calories marked on it, (such as from a bakery) and this site doesn't have it specifically listed? I want to be able to log it and see if I'm still within my limit...but I don't know how!

Thanks in advance,
Sarah

Guesstimate with the closest thing you can think of.
Shouldn't be an issue as long as it's not frequent. You should be avoiding eating things from the bakery in general anyways.

Look up something similar on the site, with a similar portion size.

Could you search the internet for a recipe for said item and then use the calories from that? It may not be exact, but it should be close.

    God bless!

Just search for something as similar to the product as you can. And remember that bakeries like to make some oversized stuff. So if it seems too low then double the serving.

If you are feeling industrious- you can call the bakery and ask them for the nutrition info. I have done this and been "enlightened" enough to never want to eat at said bakery again.

I'm going through the same problem with dinner tonight. We got take out from a local place. I tried to stay good but when you have no clue what is in it, it becomes hard. I just figure, its one night out of the week so who cares if it isn't exact. I find something close to what I had and go with it.
  • Ok, I'll be honest. It was a piece (not a big one I don't think) of chocolate cake because it was my friend's birthday. One of the estimates on here was about 338....does that sound too low to ya'll? I can't decide.

I do a search online because other sites may have the calories for that item and then you can add it to the database.

Here is a list of bakery items from Wal-Mart http://www.myfitnesspal.com/nutrition-facts-calories/wal-mart-bakery

Chocolate Cake With Fudge Icing (Wal Mart Bakery)
    Serving Size: 1 slice, Calories: 400, Fat: 0g, Carbs: 0g, Protein: 0g

Obviously, Wal-Mart doesn't have a special cake with 0 fat! But the calories might help give you an idea.
