For those of you who are out there, and are trying to lose pounds but are still athletics... give the Highland games a shot!! Be careful, as it was my demise... I gained so much weight trying to be competitive that I could not sustain it but for the average person it can be a fun way to take advantage of your size, and athletics ability....

These are pictures from this years Maine games...

My favorite part, getting my picture with the amateur womens championship top 4....

These cabers were big, and wet... the pro's threw one that was 20+ feet and pushing 200 pounds!

Here is one of the pro's tossing the caber... He was the only one to turn it... but Mike Zolkewiezk is somewhat of a monster - Actually, Monster sponsors him :)

Zolk killing his competition....

And Zolk throwing the 56# Weight for distance... he hit somewhere in the upper 50's I believe.....

This is Denise Houseman, and she is a multiple time Masters World Champion... the last time she competed in Inverness she won.

She can throw heavy weights, does yoga and backflips when she wins an event!!

My daughter was always big and that is exactly what she did. In high school she threw discus and shot put, became the Inland Impire champ the first girt to got a state championship in Ca as a thrower broke the school record after 26 years. Got a scholarship to University Of Alabama, and threw discus, shot, and weights, Then got scholarship to Arizona State. Then started Olympic Weightlifting , she is training for the 2012 Olympics and She Ranks #1 in men and women in the nation. Shes trained at the Olympic Training Center in Michigan and in Colorado Springs.

Joy, glad to hear about your daughter. Most of us in the Highland Games were previously track and field and oly lifting.

Bluefox, yes... the women who did the pictures was amazing and was proud of her nice nikon I believe it was.

If you have shutterfly you can find all 700+ pictures here:

I hate the way I look (I am the athletics director) but I hope to compare pictures next year. Some good shots though....
