Ok I've been majorly slacking but now its time to kick it up so tell me.....What is your best weight loss secret (if you are willing to share it) or what do you do to resist temptation?

Replies

  • Well for me right now, whenever I want to eat something I know I shouldn't or skip a workout, I just think about my upcoming vacation and seeing my old friends and my cousin (who, btw, is a model!). I don't want to be the "big girl" anymore. And also I'm moving soon and I don't have a lot of confidence right now, so when I get to our new place I want to be confident enough to go out and try new things and make friends.

I personally eating lots of veggies and fruits, bit of cheese, bit of meat ( although I am not a big fun of meat so mostly chicken that I eat) Working out daily 60 min including cardio (aerobic moves)+strenght(dumbell+kettlebell)+running each day 20 min :).
Well for me this is the combo! I don't eat any sugary stuff, or eat too salty. I also drink 64 oz of water and 33.8 fl oz green tea while working out. It work pretty well I lost in a week what I gained back because my snacking habit!

  • For me my husband does alot to encourage the exercise portion of my lifestyle change. I also share my daily food diary with 2 people at work and we are adding 2 more people this month so we motivate each other. As time has gone by I find myself craving less of the bad foods then I used to. Also watching my body change has been a big motivator.

You'll get alot of the "eat avocados and nuts" type of reply, but if i was giving advice to someone new who didnt know what to do, it'd be two things:

    1) Educate yourself. Know what is in the food, know what the calories are, and what your BMR is. Look for the sodium etc.

    2) Don't deny yourself anything. Think of your calories as a currency. You have, for example, 1500 a day to spend. If you want to blow 1000 on that dinner out, then go for it! Just remember you only leave yourself 500 the rest of the day. Thinking like this makes you really decide if something is worth the "money" or not. And because you aren't saying no to anything, you dont get cravings!

I get in 6 workouts a week. I rest on Sundays. I do a variety of exercises including wii fit, 30DS, cardio boxing (wii), zumba, walking and a dance dvd that I have. Whatever i'm in the mood for I do or I combine a few. I eat lots more veggies than I used to and drink tons more water. I try not to snack after dinner as well. My breakfast and lunch are usually between 200-300 cals each and I save the majority of my cals for dinner since I know I eat a lot at dinner. That's about it. I've lost 40lbs so far =) hope that helps!

There are three things that really helped me start seriously losing.

First I drink a ton of water. Didn't always in the past, so that has helped keep my body processing foods in a healthy way.

Second I eat lots of fruits and veggies, and almost no processed foods. That way I'm pretty full so when I do crave some naughty thing, I allow myself to eat it because I won't fill up on it. A while back I tried to not eat any desserts, failed miserably.

Third I only weigh myself once a week, in fact, I keep my scale on the top shelf of a closet. Some people are able to weigh in every day, and that's great, but when I did I would feel like crap every time it didn't move, or went up a little. But now, once a week, it shows the overall progress instead of all the little ups and downs that got me discouraged.

Oh, and one last thing, I don't have a vague goal "looking good." Of course I want that, but I also have measurable goals accompanied with prizes (simple pampering things that don't cost anything) along the way to my ultimate weight range goal.

I joined an active support group where I am on a 90day challenge to become fit and free. You get support and by tracking all you eat you can tweek your own program to see what you need to do to make it work for you. I don't like to say diet because for me that changes my entire mindset, when I know I am getting healthy and fit and by doing the things to get me there I know the weight will come off in the process. The basis for the 90 day challenge I am on is Personal growth, learning daily then Exercise Balanced nutrition and weight management will follow. Friend me if you like I will support you as needed as I am sure you would do the same..

That's funny - I do that too. I also say things like "I paid for a whole coke but I let the kids take a couple sips." :)

I like how you put that together, I'll keep that in mind calories as currency :D

Drink a lot of water. I didn't before and I just started trying it. Wow, it makes you look great! The whites of my eyes are so white! No more redness. My skin is looking great. Our appearance is more than our weight.

^^this and I like mini goals that are 100% in your ability to control :eat a certain amount of calories. You can't always make your body lose 1 pound a week.

I log everything BEFORE I eat it! If I put something first then I can see what it does to my numbers for the rest of the day. A lot of times it stops me dead in my tracks!

I try to do my morning workout before I have coffee...that way my brain isn't functioning yet and can't talk my body out of it!

Drink a TON of water. Make sure you get your fiber. It will help you feel fuller.

Don't deprive yourself of anything unless it will cause a binge. I have lost 57lbs (46 since May) and I have had a full sugar full fat jello pudding (120 cals) and/or 4 cookies (200 cals) and/or 3 small brownies (180 cals) every single day. I just budget them into my daily calorie allowance.

Track everything. At first I prelogged everything so I could adjust as needed and not find myself at dinner with 25 calories left. Now I prelog if I am trying something different than my standard fare.

And since I can't stress it enough drink a ton of water!

I also try to workout 6 days a week.. I am just re starting so I'm only doing 30 min a day but I will up it probably each month or sooner depending on how I feel. I also only have 1 cheat day a week which is saturday.. And really its 1 cheat meal.. Like today I had a ham and cheese omelet with 1 piece of bacon.. And the tons of water is super important!! I have learned that lots of water really helps get the lbs off!! And you look and feel better almost instantly without even losing any weight yet! Lol.. The cals like money is a great idea!! I think like that but it wasn't as currency lol

I can totally relate to the 'currency' of calories. :) I do this as well.

I would say, drink a lot of water even if you hate it.. burning fat is no good unless you flush it out!
if you crave something, wait 20 mins if you STILL want it then have a little of it.
Measure yourself from the start - might be depressing but when the inches fall off you'll wanna see them (I didn't take my own advice this time around but have in the past and regret it now).
Get your head off the 'diet' and into a change of life.. yeah yeah EVERYONE says that, but after 25 years of dieting I have FINALLY figured this out.. and all I did the past was yo-yo.
Don't lie about what you eat. :) be honest with yourself and how you feel / why you overate etc.
Finally. Do NOT feel gutted when you 'only' lose a lb. Those lb's add up to 52 in a year and there will be weeks you lose a lot more!
Weight loss takes Time, Motivation, Effort and Patience. Accept that NOW rather than in a few months.

The best weight loss "secret" I have is: eat protein. If I don't get enough protein, my diet is shot, and since diet is 80% of weight loss, ruining my diet would be baaad.

Thank you all for the ideas and tips. I will be pulling this topic up often and keeping these in mind! You all are awesome!
  • I stop myself from over indulging by making the same foods that i love but make them healthy.

for me i love pizza! so instead of eating frozen pizza or order pizza that has crazy amount of calories i make pizza healthy. for example i use whole wheat pita bread or sandwich thins for the crust a little pizza sauce and for the toppings i use lots of veggies (onions and peppers mainly) and i love the new jimmy dean turkey sausage crumbles (all the hard work is already done and it makes this quick and easy!) and then low fat mozzerella and some spices like italian seasoning and red pepper flakes! bake at 425 for 8-10 min and you got yourself a filling pizza usually around 230-300 calories! YUM

also eating a fiber full breakfast will keep you full till lunch and keep you from snacking through the day.

I love fiber one cereal or oatmeal or a double fiber english muffin with peanut butter and honey

I look at my progress pictures. The first set are pretty bad, the second set of pictures is after my 21 pound loss, and it's a HUGE difference. And then I think about the 4% body fat and 8 inches (4 from my waistline) that I have lost. And then I think about how much better I feel and it motivates me to be good.

Also, I do give in to temptation once in a while. It helps get me re-focused.

I give myself a cheat day each week. It's usually Wednesday nights, because Wednesday morning is my weigh in with my trainer, so if I want to eat something "bad," Wednesday night is the farthest away from weigh in. LOL

    God bless!

like others have said - I drink water. not TONS, but way more than I did before. and I pre-log just about everything. especially if we're going out to eat. I'll pull up the menu online and decide what I'm eating before I get there.

and I "budget" special treats in. if I'm craving chocolate, I fit it in. or whatever it is I'm craving. everything in moderation :)

but I find I don't crave stuff like I used to (except around my TOM, ugh!)

    Intermittent fasting and weight training.
I can eat 3k calories of junk on workout days (as long as I get enough protein) and still maintain/lose weight.
