Injured and feeling down - i need a boost please

Hi, i posted earlier regarding back pain from Turbo Fire. Well, the pain is to the left of my spine and underneath my ribs, definitely muscular as hurts when i walk, breath etc. Tried to do one of the dvds tonight but a definite no go, the muscle feels so sore and tight. Anyway, i have resigned myself to the fact that i cannot exercise (which is like telling me the world is going to end). I have just completed Insanity so i am not unfit and have always exercised 6 days a week. The thought of now not being able to exercise is an awful concept. Will i lose all my tone and hard work in the time it takes my muscle to heal?? I feel like i am going to wake up as a huge blob tomorrow (extreme i know but exercise is really my vice). What should i be doing to speed up repair? Also, what is the liklihood that i will go back to turbo fire and be injured again? Am worried now that i will have a weakness and be succeptible to injury for this particular workout dvd. Feel very down and would welcome advice.

I pulled my hamstring while doing 30DS and I felt much like you. I took a couple days off and really watched my diet. after my rest days I started walking so i was still getting a mild form of cardio in. this made me feel like I was still exercising and would be able to jump right back in to my routine, which i did! Chin up FitMummy! Give yourself time to heal. I am unable to work out in the way that I wish I could, but I modify what I can do and for now I know its my personal best. Do you have access to a pool? You might able to do some of what you usually do in water without the impact? I know walking isn't the same as those insanity work outs but if up your speed and go for distance or an incline you can still the calories..thats my option for now. Hope you are feeling better quickly.0

Strecthing is a MUST! My husband injured himself in the same place last week and the DR gave him a muscle relaxer and told him to stretch as much as possible. The Dr also recommended a beginner level yoga class, not that he wold ever do it, but its a great option.
Also, I herniated a disk in my lower back while training for a marathon and it was a huge hit to me that I couldn't work out like before and I continued to work out as hard as I thought was reasonable. Well, I pushed myself so hard I herniated a second disk which crushed the nerve in my back. I am still paying for my stubbornness 2 years later. I am to the point now where I can walk without my back hurting but I still lose feeling in my legs. Try not to push yourself to fast, take it slow and steady and you will heal. Ah thank you, i do have a running machine so maybe i should set the up on an incline and do some brisk walking. How long do you give a muscle to rest? Do you start again once the pain goes or longer?0

I have a whole host of back issues, sciatic problems and herniated disc. I had to take some time off from my workouts when it got real bad, but as soon as I felt like I could start up again I did. I would suggest seeing an orthopedic doctor just to make sure it is nothing serious and they can at least give you some muscle relaxers and pain meds to speed up the recovery. They can even give you some exercises that you can do to help stretch it out and speed up the process.
I am not one to run to the doctor, but now that I know what is wrong with my back as soon as it starts up I get it taken care of. I haven't had any real bad problems for almost a year so it is working. You may also try walking., that isn't too strenous on your back and would at least keep you moving while you are healing.

I felt like I was reading something I would write on your post. I am a mom of three (thinking you are too with your "fitmummy3"), and have exercised 6 days a week for what feels like FOREVER. I a bit on a roller coaster over here myself. So maybe we can help each other. I have a stress fracture on my hip and it happened 16 weeks ago. After being initially misdiagnosed (doc said it was bursitis), I was back to pretty much EVERYTHING BUT running within a week. There were still things that caused me to overcompensate (NO PAIN, just knew I couldn't sprint) and I just didn't feel back to 100 percent so requested an MRI 2 weeks ago. Once the specialist saw the fracture he told me to do NOTHING but swim for 4 weeks. Doctor wants a baseline...wants to be sure in 4 weeks he can see improvement. If not, something more needs to be done. It's going to take me all I can to hold back. I am not a swimmer, so very intimidated by the water, but need my heart rate up safely. So with that being said, maybe we can support each other. Major thing I learned from all this is the importance of stretching, foam rolling, eating right (protein for muscle repair), and listening to your body. In my heart I truly believe I will be okay, and will be able to run again. It's going to take me all I can to hold back. With that being said, hang in there, I hope to take my own advice cause it is so much easier said than done, but WE WORK HARD, we can take a break. Especially when our bodies tell us to do so. If we don't listen now, the consequences will be way more than we expected. Reach out to the experts and ADVOCATE for yourself. No one can hear what is going on inside you except you!!!! Thanks Jbli and sorry to hear you are also injured. I am a self confessed exercise addict, one of these people that can't take it or leave it, i love it!! I haven't seen a dr or anything yet but am listening to my body. Was hoping somebody would come on here and tell me to work through it and that it will go haha, no such luck. I still want firmer bottom, firmer thighs, more muscle tone etc so to take time off feels like i am undoing the progress i have made to be closer to my goals (although i am always moving them!!). I think the fact that it hurts when i walk, move or breath is probably something that can't be shaken off and just worked through. I do have 3 little ones that keep me on my toes and exercise is my time out and gives me such a high. I hope swimming helps with your progress.0

When I had a muscle pain in my back, something called a " Bed Buddy Heat/Cold pack" helped a lot. I would heat it in the microwave, and then lean on it while sitting on the couch, or put it on my back while lying in bed. Muscle relaxants helped speed the healing, but I took them only at bedtime. Give yourself time to heal. You can get back on track getting fit when you are better.0

if it's bad enough-maybe u shud c a MD_otherwise-i suggest 800mg ibuprofen if your not allergic-every 8hr-til it;s better- ice for first 48hrs of injury 20min every 1-2 hr, then moist heat 20min every 1-2hr. definitely do good stretching-yoga is a GREAT stretch and strengthening exercise-anyway-hope this helps!0

Thanks, if still as painful on Monday i will go then. Am sat with a heat pad, will try the ice too. Got ibuprofen which is mildly helpful0

If your Dr. approves, try some physical therapy. Water walking/jogging provides a good low impact workout; swimming is good too. Talk to a trainer--she'll have some alternatives for your regular routine. Good luck and don't worry. Sometimes a change from your regular routine can be a blessing.0

i'm just so use to doing the mad high impact calorie burning type of exercise that i just don't think anything else will give me the high i am use to. Am sat here with peas now, pain is awful. If it was lower down i would think i had slipped a disc. I guess i twisted too hard without tightening my core. Can't believe i had no injuries with insanity yet have with turbofire, which by the reviews is meant to be much easier.0
