The Journey

What a journey weight loss is! Last October I was 203 lbs, and I decided to do something about it. I tried nutrisystem with leftover food that my Mom decided she didn't like, and by January I was down almost 30 lbs. My lowest was 173 after I switched to Jenny Craig as the NS food is not very good. I do understand the basics of weight loss, and that I COULD do it making my own food, but I live alone and rarely have time to cook so JC is very, very convenient for me.

So, this summer while finishing my residence portion of my PhD, I went completely off any diet, what with school and stress and having no fixed address. I went back up to 185! Sigh.

Since I have been back home, I have picked up on the JC and I now have a pedometer that uploads data to a site where I can see my progress. I have a minimum goal of 5000 steps a day which is about a 40 minute walk. This morning I weighed myself at 178 and I am content with my progress as it feels good and I am not feeling deprived or craving anything. Yesterday I even had a Starbucks banana loaf slice and just worked it into my calorie intake. I use an iTouch app called MyFitnessPal which is a calorie counter that is super easy to use.

After writing this I am realizing how much I am relying on technology on this journey, but I think the ped, JC and the app are all helping me maintain a healthy lifestyle. I am ensured of getting the right mix of vitamins and minerals, fibre and protein.

There are people around me who just don't understand how weight can be a problem. But there are enough who understand, and I understand their frustration as well. We aren't all lazy couch bums who eat pop and chips all day. I have been a label shopper for many years and I still managed to gain over time.

Anyway, just felt like posting my update today :)
