Logging Festival Foods

Tomorrow I am going to a local Pumpkin Festival and I am concerned about how to log the foods that I will eat there. I dont plan on going crazy or anything but I am not going to completely deny myself either. Just wondering if anybody has any ideas on how to log foods like this when you have no idea what the calorie count is...

  • I always just try to find something that's close to it in the database, paying attention to serving size. I also try to "guesstimate" high on stuff I don't know for sure. When in doubt, I figure it's better to go too high than too low.

Try to drink lots of water -- it will keep your hands busy and help you from eating more than you might otherwise!

    Good luck!

i usually search it in the database and pick the best match with the 2nd highest calories. I know this is not the most accurate way, but I dont eat that stuff often, so I figure its ok.

I had that dilemma last weekend. There was no way I could have kept track (it was like a smorgasbord). I estimated what I thought I did. I knew I overdid the eating, so I estimated on the high side. It was only one day, one log. I was back on track the next day and not going to beat myself up over the overindulgence. Have fun at the festival!

I have found lots of things on here that you would find at a festival or fair food. I had this problem when i went to the state fair. I don't know how accurate it is, but I just picked the highest calorie food that was listed unless it was ridiculously off from the others.

Try to see if it is in the data base, if not do a google search...When you do enter it I'd guestimate higher than what you think it could be to be on the safe side. It's exactly how I did with the boyfriend's brother's lasagna last month...

It is that time of the year for fair food isn't it. I know that for me there are a couple of things I always get at the fair, a turkey leg and a grilled sausage with peppers and onions. That I know I can find those here. One other thought is that I try to stick with the proteins and stay away from the "fried" stuff like fried dough, french fries etc. Well, anyway, that is what works for me.
