Minoxidil for women - this would fall under the "chit-chat"

...category. Definitely NOT under "fun" or "games"...

Anyway, do any of you MFP ladies use minoxidil? I've been on it for 3 years. It always caused a little scalp irritation, and a teensy bit of dandruff. However, for the past several months, my noggin has become unbearable. Redness, flakes, acne, bumps, sensitivity, irritation etc, - like PMS on my head.

So, I'm thinking about cutting back on the amount and only doing about 1/2 a mL per application. Has anyone tried this? Could I lose all my hair again, and have to start over if I reduce the amount? Have any of you found a more natural/less hurty hair loss remedy?

just as bad as the whiney, "what to do when I have a period" posts on here....

I'm seeing signs that people must be turning into zombies...there's some kind of a Resident Evil outbreak because I don't think a normal human would want to publicly share such information on a Fitness And Exersice / Diet website.

Well, yeah, I kind of already made that association, didn't I? Only I wasn't whining. I was asking a question - after I searched for the (apparently) offensive ailments. And guess what. There are pages of topics on each, some regarding places far more private than a person's head. So, plenty of people publicly share such information here. But alas, I couldn't find any about the scalp, hence my need to post and now respond to your not at all welcome comment.

I don't understand why a normal human would click on a topic that clearly has nothing to do with her, just to reply with something rude.

You are abnormally obsessed with other women's periods.

To the OP - don't take offense. Sorry I can't help - no experience with the issue.

By the way, I'd just like to mention that there is a post going around RIGHT now titled "Fave Spot to be Kissed". If you think that OP's post is irrelevant to a fitness site, then you should probably take on the entire chit/chat section of this website. Good luck!

I agree, no need to get so combative over Monoxidil. Geez.

To the OP...I had hair loss for a while some years ago. You could try to watch closely your nutrients. I know that a poor diet CAN lead to hair loss. This could come into play if you are trying a very low calorie diet plan. Have you had your thyroid levels checked?

Thanks! Yes, I know I'm getting enough nutrients - at the very least I take a multivitamin. The initial hair loss was due to Topomax, a migraine prescription. I took it for about a month, unaware of the side effect, and lost about a third of my hair (which was always pretty thin). The hair loss continued even after I stopped taking the Topomax, so I starting using Minoxidil.

I very much need an appointment with an endocrinologist, but I can't afford it yet. I seem to have a lot of symptoms of either a thyroid or PCOS issue. So, it's possible the Topomax was a catalyst, but the hair loss is due to something else.

Thank you for your help! I love the little anteater thing you have in your signature. :)
