How much do you think it is feasible to lose by...

June 2012?

I've just booked a holiday and I really want to look nice for the beach / pool. I don't want to think to myself, 'Oh I can lose x amount by then...' if it really isn't likely.

If I don't lose the weight by then, I know the only person I will be letting down is myself and I really don't want to do that again!

Hiya, the problem is if you give yourself a solid target and something happens, would you be demoralised and start eating back what you lost? If so, then go for something like, I'm going to buy a fab bikini and feel really confident wearing it. If not, then how about aim for 1-2lb a week, the healthy plan and achievable if you can get your exercise in. Good luck x

It really depends on how much you have to lose but I have lost 15 pounds since March, I still have 1-5 pounds to go but those last few take forever!
  • hmm. if you lose 2 pounds a week, and there are roughly forty weeks until june... about eighty? this is if you don't take any breaks, so i'd say sixty is more attainable.

3-5 pounds a month would be a reasonable goal.

I;m not sure but think about it this way:

255.2lbs-140lbs=115.2lbs/2 (lb/week)=57.6 weeks if you lose 2 lbs per week it will take you 57.6 weeks to get to your ultimate goal. Even if you don't get to your ULTIMATE goal by then, if you continue to lose 2 lbs per week then you will still be looking pretty good! ;)
  • 10 months? around 40-80 pounds i would think. maybe more/less depending on how your body loses.

No more than 2 lb/week. Even if you could, it's not really a good idea and not conducive to keeping the weight off. Just do your best and you'll be proud of yourself!

I never even thought of it like that before! :) Thanks everyone! I just didn't want to think to myself that I could lose quite a bit by then and lose about a stone!

I personally wouldn't worry about losing a set amount and just go on the journey. How ever much I lose by June 2012, I lose. If it's not what I want, then I take what it is at that point and deal with it... that simple.

No point in driving your self crazy.. and the stress from trying to reach that set amount, may make the weight loss harder!

I would plan on 2-4 pounds per month. If you aim any higher you could disappoint yourself, but if you DO lose more, you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)
  • I think 1lb a week would be a good goal, its a steady weight to lose, some weeks you might lose 2 but some you might not lose so I'd go with that. No more than that anyways, then like the previous poster said, anything more is a bonus! :)

With no health problems and no injuries along the way, I'd figure on losing 1 pound week.

The number 50 always pops in my head when I think of 1 year, probably because I lost that amount in a year. Some months I was hard core dedicated and others I was just squeaking by w/o a gain.

Do smaller challenges along the way and time will go faster. I'm pitching my "Hot for Halloween" challenge now. Go check it out on the Motivation and Support board. No rules, just posting weekly weights (on Mondays) and supporting and hopefully motivating each other.
