I am told by some to chew sugarless gum to curb my appetite in between meals, Then I heard chewing gum stimulates your appetite. Any Ideas what the truth is???

  • try it yourself to see what your mind is tricked into buying... with me, chewing gum stops my "Nervous eating" like when I am at work. To stay fuller feeling longer I eat a fiber one bar for snack or an apple. They curb my chewing crunching craving and seem to sit on my stomach longer.

I'm trying to imagine how it might work both ways.

    1) chewing gum gives a bit of a sweet flavor. that sweetness might 'hold you over' until your next meal, feeling satisfied as though you've eaten a little treat because you had the sweet flavor. I am guessing that is how it curbs the appetite for some folks

    2) chewing, producing saliva act as a natural cue for your body to know that food is coming. as you are chewing gum, and no food is entering your belly, your body might end up thinking 'well hey, where's the food?' and send cues to you now that you are hungry. Again, just my guess as to why :)
