I've been thinking of new ways to get in some exercise and one that I wanted to try was belly dancing. Any recommendations for videos? Additionally, how long have you been doing belly dancing? Thanks in advance.

If you live somewhere that you can take classes I would totally recommend that! I was into belly dancing through most of high school and then a few years after. Most of the fun is in the group of people. You can just get crazy with the dancing and its amazing how it can make you feel so sexy and alive, and a work out all at the same time. Then I moved far far away :( So I tried just doing videos and its just not the same. Its neat to learn the techniques etc, but if you have it available I would totally recommend finding a class vs videos.

These are the videos I have that I like though if you wanted to get a few

The Heartbeat of Belly Dance - with Jenna & Raquy (I heard there other videos are good too).
    Tribal Fusion Belly Dance
    Dancers Arms with Aruna
  • I started belly dancing at 12 years old, I learned with Neena and Veena videos... This was years ago, now they have a website www.bellytwins.com . When I was 15 I started taking classes because I loved it soooo much. At 17 I danced with the Mission Gypsy Belly dancers. Unfortunately I stopped in my early twenties. If you have a moment youtube neena and veena, that way you will have a good idea of their style.

Don't know anything about belly dancing... well, that kind anyway... My wife just started kickboxing and loves it. An hour class typically burns 1000 cals.

Thanks for the suggestion of taking classes. I'll look more into that.

I started about 10 years ago with a woman who danced locally. I picked up some videos over the years and by far Neena and Veena are the best! I highly recommend their videos!

Just wanted to bump this bellydance topic up to the top again, like I did with the other one, as threads get lost so quickly on here.

I totally love belly dance, and would be happy to talk about it and do it til I'm blue in the face. It's a great work out.

I'm trying to find a dance class that fits into my schedule and getting so frustrated. I took for a couple of years with Najmat when she was teaching near Bridgewater State University (MA) but she headed back into Cambridge and that just doesn't work for me. Another wonderful girl, Amar Gamal was teaching in Bridgewater, but, as wonderful as she is I couldn't get used to her teaching when I wanted Najmat's classes. I know, sad on my part. I've been trying to find another class to join but they always seem to either start much later than I get out of work and be close to work, or they start before I could possibly get out of work and get there on time and are the other direction from home.

I started with the Twins too. They were fun and it was more of a workout. I love Rachel Brice's drills video. I really really really am going to pull it out and do it this week.
