Breastfeeding while losing weight?

hi has anyone else breastfed while on their weightloss journey?? I am currently breastfeeding my youngest who is 7 months old and am curious as to what happens after you stop breastfeeding. Does weight loss become easier or harder just wondered if there is anyone else out there.

I am also a breastfeeding mom, my daughter is 11 months and my best advice to you is to check out kellymom.com. Be very careful that you eat enough, because when you don't take in enough calories, your milk supply will dwindle. Kellymom has some great resources about breastfeeding and weight loss. Congratulations on 7 months!!0

Hi i am also a breastfeeding mum. I have found breastfeeding a huge part of my weight loss. after my baby was born (he is nearly 11months now) i lost 20kg through breastfeeding alone and i am on here to lose the last 10. I have heard from my mum and auntys who all breastfed that they have actually gained a little weight and started to have to watch what they ate more closely after they stopped breastfeeding as breastfeeding exclusively burns around 500cals a day! i think it will be harder for weight loss when you stop. and i agree with rolliepollie087 about eating enough and drinking anough while dieting for your baby. i think our calorie limits should be raised to include breastfeeding exclusively and breastfeeding supplementary.0

I'm still breastfeeding my 17mth son - but only just the one morning feed every day. I noticed that my milk supply was beginning to dwindle on days when I was only taking in my 1240 calorie goal. So I now make sure I account for breastfeeding by logging it on my food diary every day. Search for 'breastfeeding' in the food database and there are a variety of different options depending on how regularly you are feeding. These calories get added to your calorie allowance. I estimate that the one feed my son has probably is about 3oz, which adds an extra 60 cals to my allowance. I will miss those extra calories when I stop breastfeeding!0

Thanks for the link, iv been dieting for two months now but i try and keep my calorie intake around 1400 caloriesi didnt want to go down to 1200 just in cse it affected my supply and its been ok so far, i do wonder if my weightloss would go alot slower if i didnt breastfeed because those 500 calories it burns is a great help.0

You're welcome. Some women hang on to weight while they are breastfeeding, others just melt it right off. Just depends on you Good luck!0 -
Oh same! My boy is 11 months on the 13th. I still am breast feeding, i lost the 20 kgs i gained and now i have lost an additional 8kg, but am still working on loosing another 8kg
I ensure i eat over 1200 cals a day, my limit is 1530 so it works out fine.
Would love to know the exact amount calories burnt each day, wouldnt that be great huh0 -
