To start, I didn't misspell milk, however I did want to introduce a great milk alternative to those who have not heard of/used Silk. - Let me give a little back story here: I love MILK... I mean LOVE IT... I had been drinking full octane vitamin D milk for most of my life, and I attribute much of my bone health (never broken anything over MANY years of full contact sports) to my regimen. The down side to milk like that is that it is loaded with fats, and really isn't something you should keep as a daily staple in a balanced diet. Additionally many people are dairy resistant or lactose intolerant -- So what to do? I tried low fat, and skim water, I mean milk, and yeah they are GROSS, so I practically ended up cutting milk out of my diet completely.

So fast forward to my first Silk Almond Milk experience; I was skeptical, and expected it to taste pretty rough, but wanted to reintroduce a solid calcium base to my diet. I ready the cup, pull it towards my mouth, sip it down... a smile comes across my face. I proclaim to my wife, WOW, this stuff is really good. My wife too is skeptical, and has lived with a life of lactose intolerance, so she says okay let me try it. Her response is "not bad", which coming from a non milk or dairy drinker is high praise. Anyway, that was over a month ago, and since that time both me, and my non dairy wife, have been drinking the silk every day. It tastes GREAT (especially the vanilla), has much less calories and fat, contains more calcium, and contains ZERO dairy and ZERO lactose.

Well this was a somewhat random post, but I am hoping that it will be a benefit to someone out there. - Btw, there are tons of printable coupons for Silk on the web, so be sure to save money while also benefiting your overall healthy!

Have a great day,
Jason

    Thanks for sharing!

I just discovered coconut milk-first at Trader Joes, then found Silk makes a variety too. LOVE it. Especially the vanilla flavored one. but both are good milk alternatives. I prefer coconut to almond "milk" .

    Have a great day!

I'm with you, well for the most part... I've never loved milk. I have been dieting for most of my life so skm milk has been my staple for cereal... but I wouldn't consider drinking milk as a beverage. (well, unless of course there are brownies or hot fresh baked cookies!)

I decided to throw caution to the wind (since Silk only comes in half gallon size) and give it a try... and I tried the Unsweetened first. I am in love! I will drink this as a beverage. I use this in my coffee (I've always been a half&half kinda girl), I use it in my cereal, I use it in every recipe that calls for milk!

I even tried the Blue Diamond Almond Milk - there I tried the vanilla because that's all the store had, but again, unsweetened. Yum!

I've looked at this stuff for years and just thought, yick! But that's what you get for not trying something!

I'm glad you found something you like, but is this made from soy? I avoid it because it disrupts sex hormones in men and women.

I am slightly lactose intolerant but there IS lactose free milk out there and it works fine for me.

I haven't tried Silk. I use Pacific Organic Unsweetened Almond Milk....it's delicious and only 35 calories per cup!

That's the ONLY reason I use it, otherwise I would stick to skim milk. I also love soy, especially in hot drinks.

also, the Blue Diamond brand is cheaper than the Silk in my area.

What do you mean, that's the only reason you use it? Don't you know how incredibly healthy almonds are?? And I called the company and they said they use the whole almond, including skins, which really ups the nutritional value.

Don't knock almond milk...it's much healthier for you than cow or soy milk. :)

chill hon! I don't like the taste or texture as much as soy or cow's milk. I eat WHOLE almonds quite a bit, that's better than the milk.
