I haven't personally used a cement filled one, but what always steered me away from them is that they seemed bulkier and less resilient than the cast iron. I have two cast iron kettlebells and it's reassuring to know that there is little I can do them to break/hurt them, and I could beat an intruder over the head with them as well... :-P0

I'm also curious about kettlebells. Our gym doesn't have them and I wanted to try them at home. Any good fitness videos that train you on how to use them with good form? I don't want to injure myself!

i use the cast iron ones as i've heard the others are very bulky so probably depends what you are using them for. I do Kettleworxs and some exercises involve passing bell through legs or around the body which would be more difficult with a bulky one.

I have two cast iron ones. In the research I did before buying them, all the recommendations were to use cast iron. The cement ones with the plastic handles tended to break much quicker. I enjoy using them; I got the basic exercises off the info-mercial for the "Kettlebell Fitness". Plus there are several youtube videos available.0

Get the book "Enter the Kettlebell" by pavel tsatsouline who pretty much brought it to America.
Many have put Pavel down but he himself is in amazing shape, and most of those critising him were once his students and now how their own books to sell, funny enough.0 -
I didn't even know there were cement ones. I was reading on of my fitness magazines and recommended a book I forget author but the title is Kettlebells for Dummies....She recommended if can only get one get a 15 lbs on as the first one.0

Pavel is King with the kettlebell.
If coach Dan John says he ok, then he's ok! in my books!
I have an adjustable one. Its awesome. Heaps of vids online. youtube etc
Check out t-nation.com too and search for kettlebell.0 -
thanks guys, after reading other recommendations, the cement ones were said to be easy to "break" basically the sand comes out of them easily, so cast iron it is. {when I get the money that is, lol}0
