HRM Calorie Help!!

I bought a Timex HRM over a year ago and finally today decided try it out. I set it all up with my weight and max/min heart rates. I did Turbo Fire EZ 55, the calorie burn read 1457. From what I have been reading now, the Timex HRM is off because it calculates as if you are a male, resulting in a higher number than what you have actually burnt.
Some people suggest reducing the calories by 50 for every half hour. That would only deduct 100 calories off 1457, which seems insanely high.
How do I calculate the equivalent for a female? Returning this HRM is not an option being that I purchased it over a year ago and buying the Polar on top of this one would just be too much money to lay out.
HELP!! I want to use the HRM but I don't want to get false hopes that i'm burning way more calories that I actually am.

no help on what to do about adjusting the calories, but since you have only used it once have you thought about trying to sell it on ebay or craigs list. then maybe you could get a polar?????0

There really is no way to fix it so it calculates you as a female. The only way to do that is to set gender, which it does not let you do.
I'd just bite the bullet and spend the money for a Polar.. You can get the FT4 on amazon for 63 dollars shipped.
You also could try returning it.. depending on where you bought it from, they may let you get a store credit.0
