Learn to Slow Down
Are you so busy you barely have time to eat? Well, scarfing down meals won't help you meet your weight-loss goals. Eating too quickly is one of the leading causes of overeating. It takes twenty minutes for your stomach to register the food you eat and send the "I'm full" message to your brain. If you are barreling through your meals in fifteen minutes, you are probably eating more than is necessary to satisfy your hunger. Force yourself to slow down. Good, healthy food is one of the true pleasures in our lives — savor and enjoy!

To slow down when eating, keep these tricks in mind.

* If you're right-handed, eat with your left hand, and vice versa.
* Cut your food into small pieces, and eat your meal one morsel at a time.
* Make yourself put your silverware down in between bites.
* Take a sip of a beverage in between bites. Water is always best.

Thank for sharing:flowerforyou: and thank your Momma:bigsmile: ...very kind of you to pass these tips along...although we all KNOW we should slow down to take time for ourselves and enjoy the meal not just 'get-r' down....it's so easy to eat on the run... :noway:

I"ve been thinking lately that I need to at times put some of the slow down techs in place when I'm trying to get to many things down all at once.....good ideas for breaking habits we fall back into or haven't yet been able to break.

Yes, it does sound like a 'Mom' list  but since I no longer have my Mum:cry: ....I rather like the idea that she's looking after you!!

I don't care what color I wear, I can ruin it! And it never fails.....when I am cooking pasta or anything with a red sauce I always always always have a white shirt on! Ruin city! Oh and maybe that should be my sign to not be eating pasta......hhhhmmmmmmmmmm

This is really something I need to work on. Not only for the weight loss benefits, but often in restaurants I've cleaned my plate and I look over and my dining partners have barely started.

    Soooo embarassing.

I've been told to try to wait until your mouth is empty before taking the next bite. Sounds easy, but I find it so hard.

I think I'd prefer chopsticks to the left handed thing.

Some time back I heard about a study where they watched people in a fast food restaurant and found that the normal weight people were much more likely to eat french fries one at a time, while over weight people would put 3-4 into their mouth with each bite.

3 or4 french fries at a time! that is so wrong. I confess I love McDonalds french fries. I only get a small and eat them one at a time to savor the goodness. I only get them once in awhile so don't get any ideas that they are a regular in my food diary. I don't want to lead anyone astray.

I have been eating slower. In fact last night I was about 1/2 done and DH said something about my slowness. I told him I wanted to enjoy every bite!

One of the "checklist items" in the Beck Diet Solution (highly recommended, btw) is to calm down before eating. That is a biggie for me. If I am not calm, I just shove in whatever is on my plate until it is gone, not even thinking if I'm already satisfied.
