When I started here a little over 100 days ago, I did Jillian's 30DS.

Now I'm doing Supreme 90, which I felt was a good "next step" as I didn't feel really "P90X or Insanity" ready. I've just started the final 30 days.

I'm trying to plan where I'm going "next". I have 45 lbs to go yet, I need fat burning and still want to work my muscles to keep the toning going. As a single mom that has a house to run and kids to shuttle, I don't have a huge amount of time to my day. 30-45 mins works perfect. I've heard the P90x can be long in time. Insanity looks like extreme cardio.

I've like to work on running also. So I'm not sure if I should focus on that and just add the strength DVDs from Supreme 90 to keep working my muscles. I don't want to do the full 90 day program of Supreme 90 over again (I'm ready for a new routine), but do enjoy the weight training DVDs.

Any suggestions as to what would be good for me to do next? I only know about P90X and Insanity from infomercials. Or...what other "programs" could I try?

Both are great programs! I suggest P90X and then Insanity! I love them both!

    :) Good luck!

Do you want an intense cardio base workout (Insanity) or a intense weight routine (P90X). Both will get anyone into shape and both are great programs...you cannot go wrong with which ever program you choose.

For other great programs but not as intense, you can go with Turbo Fire or Cha-LEAN Extreme...
  • p90x is more strength training, insanity more cardio, I think. Either would be great, I am sure, I get stir crazy doing dvd's every day, so I flunked out of p90x, but I do like to toss the different workouts into my schedule. LOVE the yoga.

I think both P90x and Insanity are excellent. Do you own weights and a pull up bar? Both are required for p90x

The great thing about Insanity is that you don't have to own any equipment.

I quite literally just finished the Insanity Core Cardio and Balance video. My husband is in the "recovery week" which is the fifth week of the 9 week Insanity program. It's great stuff.

Send me a message if you want more info about either!

    Ok I posted but it didn't show...grr..

How long are the workouts in P90X and Insanity? Hr+ workouts are tough in my schedule. I'm busy 4 nights a week.

I workout in an open floor plan...so no place to do pull up bar. Any substitutes?

Month One of Insanity are 30-45 minute workouts and Month two are 45-60min. P90X are around 60min or longer.
  • I've done P90X Lean, P90X Classic, started P90X Doubles and Insanity. All require 40 mintes (Insanity) to an hour to an hour and a half (P90X) a day. All are absolutely great programs and they do work if you follow the diet and workout programs. I dropped 45 pounds the first time I did P90X. When you purchase P90X, it comes with the 3 workouts. Lean is designed for "getting lean" which is how I lost the 45 pounds. "Classic" is more strength building, and "Doubles" is a two-a-day that incorportates both lean and classic. Insanity involves a lot of plyometrics. Shaun T is a great motivator and the workouts are non-stop butt kickers. I prefer his Abs workout to P90X's, only because it's faster paced.

The only problem I've had recently is a lack of time, so now, I'm doing the 10 Minute Trainer. It's made by Tony Horton, creator of P90X. You have quite a few options available with it and it doesn't require weights. It works for me because each video is broken down into 10 minute blocks allowing you to dp 1 to 3 different videos a day, depending on my scheduling. It's not quite P90X, but I sweat a lot in just 10 minutes.

Another option would be the Power 90 series (again Tony Horton). I've done the last couple of workouts and found them to be lighter versions of P90X workouts. 10 Minute Trainer and Power 90 will get you used to what Horton has you do in P90X and don't require the time commitments.

Both of these programs are lower impact than P90X and Insanity. Both P90X and Insanity offer modifications to excercises, but in my humble opinion, Insanity is high impact regardless...I have to really watch my old ACL tear when doing it.

I don't work for Beachbody, Shaun T, or Tony Horton...but I do like their workouts. As always, the key to any of this is proper diet with excercise you enjoy. One of the hardest concepts for me to grasp when I started P90X was you are asked to eat 1,000 calories a day more than normal. But I followed one of the three "diets" they recommended, ate more, and lost 45 lbs. I can't argue with the results.

Hope this helps and wish you luck!
