I got one for Christmas ( from my mother), and I just made a batch of brown rice ( which usually takes FOREVER, for those of you that have made it before). It came out perfect, and in half the time! My brown rice was light and fluffy. When I made it in the past (on the stove) it was always kind of sticky.

I will never make rice on the stove again! :laugh:

:laugh: Rice cooker....where have you been all my life!??? :laugh:

    I have a friend who makes the perfect cake in hers. I think she said you just add a diet coke instead of water and microwave. Not sure how diet friendly it is.. but they sure do taste good.

    Isn't there a way to make it lower in calories and fat? i always use fat free milk. i know i have a regular recipe that calls for milk, sugar, rice and vanilla flavoring. maybe we could use splenda and fat free milk. that is a thought!:grumble:

    Dark Chocolate Truffle Cake

    That's right. Dark, decadent chocolate cake- made in a rice cooker.

    2 cups water
    2 cups chocolate cookie crumbs
    3/4 cup sugar
    5 ounces unsweetened dark baking chocolate, melted
    3 large eggs
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    - Dash salt
    3/4 cup evaporated milk

    Pour 2 cups of water into the inner pot of the Aroma® rice cooker and close the lid. Press the Steam/Cook button and bring the water to a boil in approximately 8 minutes. Place the cookie crumbs in the bottom of a 1-2 quart baking dish that fits into the inner pot. In a medium bowl, add the sugar to the warm melted chocolate, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Add the eggs, one at a time, whisking to incorporate each egg. Add the vanilla and salt. Add the milk, whisking until the batter becomes completely blended. Gently pour the batter over the cookie crumbs.

    Cover with a piece of foil that fits the top of the dish. Open the lid, using caution to avoid steam burns. Using a cooking mitt and a foil pan lifter place the dish in the boiling water. Close the lid and cook for 45 minutes. Open the lid, and use a cooking mitt and the foil pan lifter to remove the dish to a rack to cool. Serve while warm or chill for up to 4 hours before serving.

    Ok, here ya go...just Googled for this....

    ".I often make steel-cut McCann's oats with a 1:4 oats:water ratio (plus cinnamon) in my 10-cup rice cooker. They come out great every time. But, the next pot of rice always tastes a little like oatmeal and cinnamon, because it does bubble up a little into the vents and lid."

    ***Many mentioned a 5 cup rice cooker will make a mess with that type of recipe (McCanns Steel Cut Oats..also called PinOats)

    Very cool! Sounds like my crockpot which you can also do cakes, steel oats etc in... I know you can put a rice steamer in it too....no clue if it'd turn out like Watch48's though.....

    The mystery continues....:bigsmile:

    Fat Smash Brown Rice Pudding with Sliced Cooked Apples
    Makes 1 serving
    Preparation time: 30 minutes

    Ingredients:

    * Rice_pudding_with_apples3/4 cup precooked brown rice
    * 1/3 cup skim milk (I substituted 1/4 cup reduced fat soy milk and enough water to make 1/3 cup of liquid)
    * 1 egg white
    * pinch of salt
    * 1 dash ground cinnamon
    * 1 dash ground nutmeg
    * 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
    * 2 Splenda packets (You may want to use another sugar substitute like Stevia. However if you use Equal, sprinkle on your rice after cooking)
    * 1 small apple, sliced

    Directions:

    1. Mix cooked brown rice with 1/4 cup milk in a saucepan. Add sugar (and a pinch of salt if no salt was used in cooking the rice). Cook over medium-low heat for 15-20, until thickened and milk is absorbed.
    2. Take sliced apples and cook in microwave until tender. Use a GLAD SimplyCooking microwave steaming bag for perfectly steamed apples. Or just cook in a covered microwave safe bowl.
    3. Beat egg white with remaining milk. Stir into rice mixture and add vanilla. Cook 2 minutes.
    4. Dust with cinnamon and nutmeg and serve on top of apples.
