Hello I am new, and was recommended by a friend. I am not sure how this exactly works. I was going to join weight watchers but my friend told me about this website. I want to loose 20lbs. Is this a point system if so how does it work. How many points are you suppose to have per day, etc... any advice would be helpful. Thanks a bunch. From Texas

  • Welcome to MFP! It ia a great place for support and information! It isn't based on points at all like WW. It is based on calories in and calories out and having that deficit to lead to weight loss. When you develop your profile it will lead you through the process of determining how many calories you should eat each day in order to lose weight at the pace you choose (i.e. 2 pounds per week, 1 pounds per week, etc). Feel free to add me as a friend if you have more questions! The more support the better!

No points...it's calorie counting. You enter your stats, how much weight you want to lose, and your current level of activity. The site will calculate a calorie deficit and as long as you stick to the suggested amount, you should have no problem losing the weight you want to lose. And if you exercise (and track any calories burned via cardio activity), you can consume those calories as well.

For example, if the site gives you 1200 calories as your goal, and you burn 300 calories walking, you actually can consume 1500 for that day. The goal resets back to 1200 the next day.

    Welcome to the site!
