weight loss for slow metabolic rates

When I was 15 I developed anorexia. After starting to recover two years later I started gaining around 1 to 2 pounds a week then it grew to 5-10 pounds A WEEK it was really quite scary, before I could even blink I weighed over 200 pounds. Soon after, though, I was diagnosed with severe hypothyroidism so I thought, hey finally I can get this weight under control this is just a condition that can be taken care of with drugs.
I did stop gaining weight but I was having a huge problem with loosing weight nothing seemed to work I even started counting every little calorie I was eating, and it was only around 1200 calories, so why wasnt I loosing weight? I went to the doctor and showed her my food log she decided to do a metabolic test on me turns out I have signficantly lowered my metabolism by being anorexic for two years. She said it can be raised but it will take a long time and I would need to diet.
I tried all kinds of diets nothing really helped it wasnt until I got sick with lupus and lost a dramatic amount of weight that I figured it out. because of the lupus I had to go on a glueton free diet for awhile, It helped ,a little. I lost some weight slowly but it wasnt until I tried actually eating more calories around 1500 but no red meat and no fried foods that I saw great weight loss. I also found some ways of cutting calorie corners and sneaking in some exercise.
Heres 10 ways I found to loose weight with a slow metabolism
1. Instead of using butter I used spray butter
2. I started eating all fiber enriched foods which ushually had less calories
3. when I felt like snaking I would eat rice cakes with a glass of water they are high in fiber and make you feel full when combined with water or I would grab a peice of fruit that was juicy
4. Since I love breads I started replacing normal bread with 35 calorie whole wheat bread (made a HUGE difference)
5. I started using smaller plates so my portions looked bigger
6. I replaced juices and sodas with water
7. I found small ways of exercising such as taking the stairs, parking further away, doing ab twists at my desk
8. I started using this website just recently so I know how much im eating and when to stop
9. Even if im not hungry I make sure to eat a small breakfast because if I dont I know the metabolic rate will go down through out the day
10. I sit down for all my meals so I can enjoy the food and eat slower so I feel full faster
hope these tips help for all those who have noticed that the pounds are not just melting off and finds it much harder then most to loose weight. because believe me I have been there. feel free to post your tips
