Hi! I just turned my whole life upside down and moved to another country away from my family and friends. I find getting/staying fit here is really difficult without any real motivational support. So I was just wondering to see if there are any Dutch MFP ppl out there that would want to friend me! And let me in on our secret as to how u get motivated to work out with all this rain  I find I struggle with that but it might just be because my mindset is so busted atm.

Kind regards!

Hey, I'm actually living in Arnhem but work in Amsterdam, so I travel through Utrecht almost every work day (and I used to live near there in Nieuwegein years ago!). Welcome to the Netherlands! As as for motivation... well, you should probably get it quickly out of your head to use the weather as an excuse because I'm afraid this is it! hahaha! Seriously, you're going through big changes, take it one step at a time and try to incorporate good healthy habits in each day. Are you planning on going to a gym? Do you run outside? Are you going to get a bike?

I know a few expats in Utrecht I could also "introduce" you to, if you would like? You came here for your relationship?

Like I said I'm going through Utrecht all the time, i could always stop off for a coffee/ chat. I am always happy to meet like-minded people to keep the motivation up. I don't work out with anyone, which is fine usually, but sometimes when you have a running partner or someone to go to the gym with, it certainly is harder to get out of going!!

I live in Belgium, that's not so far from where you are! You can add me if you want, so that we can discuss the rain and the unavailability of all the products people talk about on these forums! ;-)
  • Hello, I am a transplanted American living in the Gooi, I saw that lowfatpie already replied too :-) I have been here 13 years.

Best suggestion - get a rain suit for the bicycle and use the bicycle all the time (but safely please - obey the traffic rules!). That is how the Dutch stay so fit (IMHO!).

Feel free to add me if you want as well.

    Cheers, Christy

I'm a Brit living in Nijmegen. Feel free to add me as a friend - I always enjoy lookng at other people's diary choices for low calorie alternatives.

As for motivation and the weather, I drag out the Wii when I get the chance, but with working four full days and having two little ones around at all other times it's tricky.
  • Oh man I'm so sorry for not responding sooner! To be honest, I haven't been exercising too much since arriving, and my guilty conscience has kept me from checking out my MFP account :( Sorry! But I'm here now, joined a gym that's on my street (gulp, only been there once so far, heh :P) I'm so excited to see all the responses, I hope you guys don't mind if I add you all?
Many hugs and have a lovely week!

which gym are you going to? just a local one or a chain?
  • Hi! Sorry it took me so long to answer! I'm going to a local gym(right around the corner) called Top Fitness Gym. It's awesome, I get free Personal trainer 3x week and all the equipment is brand new. :) Love it!
