so, I took my measurements and I am wondering now what a reasonable goal is for inches lost? I would like to lose 2-3 inches per month and I was wondering if that sounded realistic based on results some of you who have been here longer have had.

How big are you and where are the inches...I've lot just over three off my waist in two months and I'm doing incredibly well. To loose 2-3 a month would be not only dangerous, but very hard to actually achieve in my case.0

I lost 8 lbs and 4 inches off my hips. but every one is different. Shoot for a goal on pounds, and the inches will consistently come off. Cardio targets all your body's fat. If you are trying to loose inches in a certain part of your body, on top of your cardio do exercises that target that specific place. I.e. abs do cardio, crunches, and core training.0

Everyone tends to loose and gain differently. I tend to gain and loose evenly all over. I have lost maybe 40 lbs and about 6 inches from my waist . I started at a very tight 18 (38) and today I am comfortably wearing a 12. (32). One of my good friends tends to gain and loose in the caboose area. For her waist inches are probably small but hip inches have been large. 2-3 sounds like a lot to me. Looks like mine has been about 1.5 inches per 10 lbs. I do not do a hudge amount of "excercize" I am a walker and I run stairs at my work (7 floors). Better to make realistic goals that will motivate you to keep going vs setting them too high and getting discouraged. Good luck!0

Thanks to both of you! I do kickboxing or some type of interval training mostly for cardio and walk with my kids when the weather is nice and then I do circuit training a couple times a week to help build muscle and tone up.
In answer to your question, I am about 40-50 lbs overweight, looking to lose 40 lbs. My waist right now is a 36 inch waist sadly. My measurements are 39-36-43.(bust-waist-hips). I would like to lose a couple inches off of my bust/hips and about 8-10 inches off of my waist.0 -
I never had a goal for inches. i just measure to see if there is progress especially when the scale is not moving in the right direction.0

Thanks Aiyana, you are probably right, it is probably unrealistic. I just keep trying to fool myself(and make excuses!) that since it came on as a result of having babies and my youngest one is still under 1 y/o that it should come off faster. lol I know, crazy, but I just can't believe what my waistline is...so ugh! Thanks for your help and congrats on your weight loss!0

Chantal, I started doing measurements because I have found that I can drop 10 lbs in a month's time with little effort, just drinking water and exercising 30 minutes a day and still eating what I want. Problem is, even though I tend to lose 1.5-2 lbs per week easily, sometimes even 2.5-3 lbs per week after that with just exercise and drinking lots of water while eating pretty much what I want, I don't see a drop in clothing size for a while. That is a big motivation for me is wearing my old clothes and to do that, I need to drop down 2-3 sizes. I need to just slow down and be happy with the small victories for now I think.0
