Do you really burn more calories riding a exercise bike than you do just walking?? I rode my stationary bike for 30 minutes at 10mph and wasnt sure what to list it as in my MFP app. So I did 15min "Moderate effort" & 15min "light effort" they both came up more than 200 calories each. I wasnt all sweaty & outta breath like when I walk briskly or do My Walking off the Pounds DVD (which burn less). My body did move more and my legs definately moved more. What should I do? Log in a few less minutes than what I actually do? Im kinda baffled... if I do burn more calories on a bike I'm gonna ride so much more! lol

it all depends on your intensity.

when you walk or run, or use the elliptical you are engaging your arms. this is according to studies helps the body burn more calories.

Well while riding I do arm exercises too to try to get my whole body engaged. The handle bars dont move, its a old bike but it still works fairly well.

Thanks....I will think abt my intensity next time.

I guess it depends on your bike too. I have a spin bike and can burn almost 500 calories in an hour, which is a lot for me. If you crank up the resistance, and stand on it to push the peddles down, you can really burn some calories!! I sweat like a dog on it, dripping like crazy after 45 min to an hour.. I love my bike!! I follow spinning dvd's at home to get a good mix of flat roads and hills. Play around with the resistance......you will get a good sweat going on!!

Thanks for the info. When my body isn't as sore (lol) I will try sum new stuff....cycling while standing is a great idea, I'm gonna try to work up to that. Thanks again. :)
