Ok, does anyone have any advice on how I can up my number of sit-ups besides just doing sit-ups. I'm getting kind of bored just doing sit-ups all the time, and I don't think they are helping me up the number. I feel like I'm just stuck...
I have a physical fitness test coming up in 2 weeks where I need to do a certain number of sit-ups within 2 min. I can pretty much do the magic number, but am totally straining to push the last few out.
Any advice?

  • How are you breathing through your sit ups. Just try to concentrate more on the breathing then the actual sit up. Maybe that will help. Good luck. :flowerforyou:

I haven't even thought about my breathing. I will try to pay attention to it when I'm doing them tonight.
    Thanks for the advice!

Sandy, I checked your profile to see if I could see what the fitness test was. My DH has a uniform just like that! So thanks for serving!
I have not done sit ups, not even crunches in years. I wanted to do the sit up challenge that's starting so I did my test today and was surprised that I could easily do 40. (they are the crunch style not the full sit up. Does the Army still use those?) But I think that because I do pilates I have more core muscle strength. You might want to try to do some of that to strengthen all of your abs. I use a Denise Austin DVD, it's only 20min and I only do it 2x week.
    Again, thanks for serving!

Hi Keiko, thanks for the advice. I'll check out the Denise Austin DVD. Sounds pretty good.
I work full time in the CA Army Natl. Guard. My test consists of push-ups (2 min), sit-ups (2 min), and a 2 mile run. The push-ups and the run are my good events, but those darn sit-ups...:grumble:
I get bored doing the same thing all the time, so I'll definitely try out the DVD.

when you take your APFT, make sure you 'throw yourself back' and not go back slowly. dont use your muscles to take you back.

as far as improving your situps. there are all kinds of exercises you can do (other than situps) any of the different kinds of crunches, planks, hanging crunches. doing crunches on the exercise ball has helped me the most.

    Good luck!!!

I'm so psyched. I passed my fitness test with flying colors today! Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it. I'm going to buy myself an exercise ball next week. I'm excited!
Lets see how I will improve by the time April roles around.
