Hello-I am a 52 year old female from SE Texas who needs to lose 100 lbs and I am having a really tough time trying to discipline myself. I want to exercise and eat right, but it's hard to exercise when you can't breathe and it hurts to move. Just looking for some encouragement, tips, friends in the area who might have suggestions or success stories.....thanks!

Baby steps.
Work on the food thing first. Exercise can be anything including just doing a few sitting leg lifts from the couch. You may want to incorporate a bit more walking in your day - just down to the end of the driveway and back, say. Increase your driveway laps as you are able to.
Nobody has the perfect way to do this, and no one does it perfectly. Setting overly high expectations from day one can completely sabotage you.
Keep it simple but keep on it. Slow and steady.
I need to lose 100+ pounds as well. Feel free to friend me.0 -
Lol...when I read the "Im not fat, I'm big boned!" I think I have said that all my life.....6' tall and always on the heavier side, but when I hit 50...the heavy got heavier and the losing got way harder. And I have no patience.....I figure if I make some friends on here that have similiar goals, it may be easier to be accountable and I can be an encourager too! Thanks for your post!0

Hi. CJ, it can be difficult to feel like you can make progress when you don't feel like you can move or breathe. I know how that feels, and now, most days I can breath easier and move easier since committing to loving myself enough to work on losing weight and becoming more mobile. MFP is a great place to find encouragement and support. I had a goal of losing 139 pounds. I have 101 to go.
Something that helps me both breathe and move easier is doing yoga. Gentle stretching combined with intentional breathing excercises my lungs, my joints, my muscles and slows and focuses my mind. If you have mobility problems, there are adaptive moves that you can do. I also take short, sometimes slow, sometimes fast walks. Slow walks when you focus on your breath or the feel of the ground under your feet helps to take your mind off pain and onto the task at hand. Also, my favorite excercise activity is to work in my garden.
As far as food, well, I've decided that if I really love it, I will eat it. But I have found that things I thought I loved, when I focus on the flavor and texture, I don't love it, so I stop eating it. Other things, I have rediscovered my love for like fresh fruit.
Mostly, I am committed to being as compassionate with myself on this journey as I try to be for others. Beating ourselves up for not being perfect is a sure recipe for disaster. I have had enough disasters in my life. I'm determined not to beat myself up this time around.
Hope this helps a bit. You can add me as a friend if you want.0 -
Peacehawk, has many many good points.
I started with a goal to loose 128 pounds, I have 100 to go.
Take it slow at first. celebrate every victory and every pound.
I have a silver chain type bracelet. Everytime I lose 10 pounds, I buy a charm for my bracelet. I wear the bracelet at all times. For me, it is a physical reminder of how far I have come. It is also pretty fun to pick out new beads!
My food journal is open if you would like to view it. I don't say that I eat perfect, but I don't have "off limits" foods either.
I would love to be your MFP friend!0 -
I started with 175 lbs to lose, I am down 44 to date, but exercise is very difficult for me. I get in some walking and water aerobics had helped greatly. Now that the weather is cooler and we are closing our pool I guess it will be just the walking for a while. I have primary progressive MS, so anything that I can do as far as exercise is a plus. Most of the weight has come off very slowly but primarily with just healthy eating. As you lose the exercise WILL get easier!
Any of you please feel free to add me as a friend.....I'll be on this site for a LONG time!!!0
