I have the most intense hip cramp! I can't walk :/ How do I

I have less movement in my right hip flexor, possibly just because of how my body is put together (I have Muscular Dystrophy, CMT type 2) however, I've been doing small stretches lately to increase my range of motion in that hip and I guess I pushed too hard yesterday or something because now I can barely walk! I kept waking up during the night with this awful pain and now I've been awake and out of bed for about 30 minutes and the pain is still very excruciating, it even hurts up my back on the same side as where the hip pain is. I have a very high pain tolerance, it's not normal that pain stops me from living my life and this pain has stopped me dead in my tracks! It's really uncomfortable :/

So anyway, should I stretch it out or just rest until the pain is gone?

Thank you in advance.

I would very gently stretch the hip in the opposite direction that you originally stretched in. I would also gently (can't emphasize that enough) stretch the back that is hurting. Try taking some deep breaths and stretch on the exhale; concentrate on relaxing the muscles in the area affected. Also massage is good, again consciously thinking about relaxing those muscles affected, sometimes you have to actually touch the muscles you want to work with in order to get your brain to process completely what you are trying to do

Does the pain run down your actual hip or more like across your buttock? If its going into your back, it may be sciatica. I have issues with my hip and when I need to stretch it I stand in front of my counter, put my foot (left because that the side that hurts) behind my other foot and lean towards the left. You will feel it stretch.

But if you continue to hurt after today, go to doc.

    Hi,

Massage is good, but, if it doesnt get better, with the muscular dystrophy, it might be a good idea to see your doctor.
  • If this is a new pain and not normal for you, I would suggest you go get it checked out. Better to air on the side of caution, especially if it is so intense. Hope all is ok :)

I disagree with any more stretching or inflammation. I'd say take an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen or aspirin, NOT tylenol) and alternate ice & heat. Try soaking in a hot tub.
If it's still excruciating, call the dr. A massage at a chiropractor would be helpful but if you're in serious pain, I would NOT treat it myself or let just anyone massage it.
that's my 2 cents - don't mess with joint pain - it could get MUCH worse

It's my actual hip, like the hip flexor. I didn't know which area the hip flexor was until just now otherwise I would have posted it at the beginning =P
