Net calories

I've read that net calories should not be below 1200, otherwise your body could go into starvation mode. Is this true? I'm really trying to limit my calories for the next few days because of not eating well earlier in the week, but should I still have at least 1200 net? Right now with my meals plugged in for the rest of the day today, my net is just over 600 and I'm wondering if that's too low. Thanks for the advice!

Yes it is true. It's OK to trick your body with a day, but it adjusts very quickly.

I would say it is really low. You need calories for your body to function properly and you will end up throwing yourself into starvation mode. If you are not hungry, try a high cal/fat and protein punch food like almonds, or some peanutbutter. Good luck!! :)

Google "starvation mode myth" - I think you might be shocked at what you find. Even weight watchers admits that this myth was started by skew results of research. What they say is that the metabolism slowed down. What they forgot to mention was that this does not happen till body fat dropped to 5%.

I really wish people would quit perpetuating this myth.. Yet the moment anyone asks why they are not losing weight - someone inevitably responds 'Your not eating enough..."
