17 miles in one hour?!

I have been suffering from numerous injuries lately but still want to work out. Running outside is ideal for me but unfortunately have doctors orders not to. I'm also not supposed to use the treadmill or elliptial but was told the stationary bike is okay.
I used it today and the gym and wow! I used one of the more high-tech ones and not higher up seated ones. I was on the program for "hills" and biked for an hour. It said I biked 17 miles! Holy cow! Is that possible? It also only said I burned 300 calories in the process. I would assume it to be pretty accurate because I put in my weight but it all seems bizzare to me!
Any ideas?!

 I think something may be wrong Kristin... Even at a "moderate" pace - something like 6mph, you should have burned over that number of calories. That said, 17mph is a really high rate - if you did that for an hour your loss would be something like 600+ calories... The best way to know is use an on-line calculator and put in your sex, weight and distance (miles) and you should get a pretty good idea of what you really burned. It was either way more than 300, or the distance calculation on your machine is off. Keep going girl!0

I am an avid cyclist and the most I have done on a stationary bike in an hour is 15 miles and I wore a heart rate monitor and burned like twice that amount of cals. It sounds like it may be off one way or another. I bet both are off a bit.0

blahh I hate inaccuracy. I need to get a HRM! I was going at level 6 if that means anything....0

getting the polar f6 was the best thing I ever did as far as diet and exercise are concerned. It really gives you a much more accurate read. I hope for your sake you did burn all those calories, but I wouldn't consume them as exercise cals until you know for sure. No sense all that hard work going to waste!
I cycle outdoors and when I first started I thought it would be a breeze b/c I was such a "pro" on the stationary one...boy was I wrong. It nearly killed me. Anyway, in one hour on my bike outside on real hills I only burn about 600. Sometimes more if I really really push myself! Riding a real bike is much harder than the one in the gym.
splurge get yourself a HRM. while nothing is fool proof, your reading will be much more accurate!0 -
I can bike home (15 miles) in one hour and that's straights and hills. I know 17 is possible in one hour on a stationary. My bike calculator shows aprox 600 calories give or take, however, that includes hills. 400ish would probably be appropriate for flats at a consistant pace. A HRM would be a great.0
