  • I would take 2 advil right before the run. Make sure you have good running shoes, sometimes that can make a real difference. I would also lay off of running the day before, get a good night sleep. Good Luck!

Outside side of the knee? Or elsewhere? Outside can be iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) which is just a painful inflammation and not really an injury per se. It plagues me from time to time also. You can ease it by changing your stride (usually a longer stride) or by wearing a compression strap/brace above your knee. It's the only condition I have any experience with. If the pain is elsewhere, it's a different problem.
  • I am not sure if this is the problem, but for me when I started running, I was not getting enough fat in my diet to lubricate my joints. I added some fish oils and within a few days the pain went away. I can't tell if it is from an injury or not but the fats (healthy fish, olive, etc) may help with the pain if it is not from an injury. Good luck and I hope this helps.
  • look into the effects of ibuprophen on your kidneys. I read something about it being damaging within a certain amount of time after running.

Do you have a history of knee problems? Try talking to a doctor about it. It could just be that your body is not used to the 'pounding' motion from running. It can be something as simple of poor form. Try reading ChiRunning a book about how to run with reducing impact on your body.

    Good Luck.
