Sodium how much?

I have decided that possibly some of the delay in losing the weight I want maybe due to my sodium intake. It is something that I have never watched. I am doing 1200 calories with 150 carbs. I ride bike/ walk 4 times a week for at least 45 min. I know that loosing about 1 lb a week is healthier but I would like to bring it up to at least 2.

I have no idea how much sodium is good or bad in your diet.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can add that column to your diary, it is suggested that we get 1500 mg, and no more than 2400 mgs (MFP sets at 2500)

There are many aspects of this question that vary from person to person. People who are on low-sodium diets(The DASH diet) under the advice of a medical doctor are usually restricted to 1500 mg per day. The MFP default allowance is 2500. This was too high for me. I shoot for 2000 or under, and with my 1285 calories, that is very doable. I have to watch it closely when I have exercised and my calorie allowance goes up.

Now note that I am 50 and borderline hypertensive, so the right answer for me may be wrong for you. Generally speaking however, the typical western diet has too much sodium.
