Calories in, Calories out works. If you are at a calorie deficit, you are losing weight. You might not need to exercise at first, but after a few weeks you'll want to do it anyway.

Weigh yourself as often as you want, but only record it once a week. Your weight will bounce around 5-8 lbs between time of day and water gain. Don't let it discourage you. It takes an excess of 3500 calories to gain a pound. (If you go up two pounds from one day to the next, did you "Accidentally" eat a large meat lovers pizza alone last night in addition to your regular eating? If not, then you definitely did not gain 2 lbs overnight. )

Find things that make you happy that aren't related to food and do those things, especially if you're feeling hungry. Being bored and hungry is the worst state you can be in if you are trying to lose weight. Engage your hands so you don't snack, too! Spend the extra money you spent on snacks on something fun instead.Crafting? Video Games? Reward yourself for not snacking.

I chew gum when I am sensing a snack craving coming along. Can't eat while you chew gum. It is like locking your mouth for a while. Also, if you feel hungry, drink a nice big glass of water first.

Find what works for you, realize that feeling upset about being hungry is just your evolutionary reaction to feeling like its time to "Hunt or Gather". You have food, you have plenty of food. Its there, you're going to be fine. Choose to weigh less over eating a chips. You'll feel better about it long term.

Oh, and post on here often. Its great to be in an environment where everyone is focused on the same thing- especially if youre the only one in your circle who has decided to improve their health.

Be sure you get all of your calories or very close too. This was my biggest struggle. I am still struggling to get in 8 glasses of water a day.
Be sure to weigh and measure. We tend to not be very good estimators.
Try to not just look at calories. Feed your body and it will be satisfied more quickly.
Try to avoid empty calories, white flour and sugar. They will just make you crave more food.
Learn to enjoy as much as possible in its raw form and try to minimize processed foods. Preservatives also tend to make me crave.
Don't sit if you can stand, don't stand if you can walk.... Even a short walk every day will help.
I allow myself one day-usually Saturday for one meal that is special. On that day weather I go out to eat or cook at home I may have foods that are not as diet friendly as others. I plan for this day and eat fewer calories the rest of the day to be sure I am still at my calorie range. (I am usually at 1200 I am sure to never go over 1500). Having this one day helps me be very good the rest of the time.
Don't eat the same thing every day.
Someone here recently suggested logging what you want to eat before you eat it (or before you leave for the restaurant). This helps you make informed decisions.
Try to take it one day at a time!
The first 3 days are the hardest, By the time you get to the third week it becomes routien.
Do it for the health not for the mirror!
Good luck. You can do this!
