Swimming Watch

I just started swimming (I actually started lessons so I don't pick up any bad habits before I even begin but I'm also swimming around them too for practice!) and I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a watch to track both time and laps. Preferably also calories but that is not a real need.

Thank you!

  • If you haven't bought a watch, I like the Timex Shock. It's basically the Timex Iron Man, but is built up to withstand harder use. It's easy to use for total time, and you can also track splits (laps). I think there are models that will track 30-50 splits. The one I have is water resistant to 200m. It's pretty inexpensive, and you can get them on line for under $35-40, and you can expect about 3-5 years of use before having to get a new one. Timex basically makes them disposable; said another way, it's impossible to change the battery.

The nice thing about Timex is, the basic layout of the watch hasn't changed for years. Won't track calories, but you can find websites for that. Like, I allow 16 calories per minute of hard swimming, and 12-13 when I'm just taking it easy. Good Luck!

Well, thanks to both of you! For the post and answer. I've been looking for info on a watch. Tired of using the gym pool clock! :-)
