I'll let someone else answer this, because it's been answered so many times on these boards already...
But out of curiosity, can you call your doctor to ask this question? I call and/or e-mail my doctors a LOT. They're used to minor followup questions on the phone like this. Sometimes you will speak to a PA or NP instead of the doctor and you may need to wait for a callback, but if you're concerned about doing what the doctor ordered, you may want to go this route...0 -
this is the only thing that i do not like about this site u have people that are rude and are smart a!!s If u dont want to answer a question dont even remark to it k There are always repeat questions on here and no the docters where i come from want an appointment everytime u have a question or concern its different everywhere im from a small town in ohio thanks0

I really dont think they meant it to come off as rude. Perhaps just concern for your diabetes. But for me, I do eat some or all of my exercise calories. For some reason I just cant seem to make the 1200 work for me. But it also gives me a great incentive to exercise so I can eat. Best of luck to you! :flowerforyou:0

Uh..okay. I wasn't intending to be rude at all. I just asked a question. If your doctor suggested a specific caloric count, I was thinking that the doctor is likely the best person to ask, since s/he has a better idea as to what your body needs and what your diet requirements are than we do, who don't know you, what exercise you get, what you're eating, etc. I was not intending to be rude at all. I'm sorry you took it that way.0

The standard response is that MFP sets up your calories so that you are always at a deficit whether you exercise or not. However, you've said that your doctor set your calories, not the website, so as was politely suggested, I would check with her. It can probably wait until your next appointment if you really think she won't take your call.0

There is a search function on these forums.
In any forum, it is expected that you use said search function before posting a thread. Search for "Exercise calories", and you'll come across 39685994 threads covering this issue.
This forum is very...mildly moderated, as most forums just delete repeat threads.
My dietician said i should eat them back.
My trainer said i shouldn't.
Everyone has a different opinion. There is no concrete answer. It's a case of you eating them all back, then eating some back, then eating none back, and seeing what works for you! Everyone is different :drinker:0 -
I would follow your doctor's advice before the advice of people on MFP! Even though they're great!!0

if you're under a doctor's care, you should probably do what they tell you. no one here knows enough about you, your doctor, or your health to answer that for you.0

if my doctor told me to eat 1200 calories and not eat back exercise cals, I think I'd get a new doctor unless you are very short maybe? 1200 calories while exercising doesn't cut it for me - I was eating 1450 while exercising and that wasn't cutting it either I think - if I were you I would eat them BUT as a million other people said since your doctor is telling you to do this, you need to talk to the doctor.0

eat the number of calories it says to eat, if you exercise, it adds colories which you are also supposed to eat. That is the point of the website.
you set how much you want to lose, and it gives you a number, go by it.0 -
Obviously you should ask, but if the doctor is not aware of you exercising then I'm betting you need to eat them back, because it sounds like they want you to get 1200 calories a day....and if no exercise plan was discussed, it's probably not being factored in.0
