So I have a dilemma… I’ve been a pecitarian for about two months now and I love it!! I like not being a full vegetarian and still having the option to eat fish. When I was getting in the shower, I noticed that I could kinda see my spine and my back ribs. This freaked me out because I haven’t looked like that since my ED. I have fully recovered from my ED, I eat everyday and exercise. I am proud of myself but I don’t wanna go back to that. I am considering going back to eating meat again. This terrifies me because (call me crazy) but I am scared. When I did eat meat, I only ate white meat the majority of the time. It’s healthier for u and red meat does not satisfy me. What should I do? Continue with my pecitarian lifestyle and get more protein with beans, nuts, veggies, etc or work white meat into my diet?

As long as you are eating well and are aware of signs that you COULD be slipping back into your ED habits.. I don't think it is necessary for you to eat meat. As long as your diet is healthy and balanced, I think you'll be just fine.

I can see my spine and my back ribs too. For me, it is a sign that I am healthy. I don't want to have that layer of fat over my back anymore. So, I don't see a problem with it.

Continue to eat your calories, make healthy food choices, workout, etc. and I think you'll be fine.

I know that some days I can't have the dinner or the breakfast I want cuz I am so busy. I snack and I have lunch but I want more food without going over calories and sodium. I'm still trying to figure out the whole protein thing as well.

If I do go back to eating white meat I wanna eat it in moderation and take baby steps. So if I want white meat, I can have it. If I don't want it, I won't eat it. I don't wanna have shame in eating it or not.

Try a good protein shake. They even have some that are made with veggie stuff!

I like Special K shakes and slimfast. Any other good brands?

I think you need to do what feels right to you.

If you like white meat and it satisfies you, then eat white meat. Red meat isn't unhealthy if you're eating the correct meats (grass fed beef), and this particular type of red meat is lower in calories and fat than "traditional" beef.

But if it's just an issue of it doesn't appeal to you, then don't eat it.

This is my opinion..... why don't you add some chicken in twice a week, and see how you feel. Eat some fattier fish like salmon, and compare how you feel an hour after eating that, to how you feel after eating chicken. Some people are totally happy being a vegetarian, and others really do need the meat.

I have tried to go the vegetarian rout before..but it just doesn't work. For me personally, legumes make me feel overfull, heavy and sleepy, so they are not a good protein choice for me because they are also so high in carbs. As a result, MY body really does need animal protein for me to feel my best.

My advice.. play around with your diet a little bit, and see what makes you feel the best. Perhaps even consult with a nutritionist/chiropractor that practices Nutrition Response Testing. They can tell you EXACTLY what you are deficient in and 1. Advise you on which foods to eat to get the nutrients YOUR body needs, and 2. Give you natural, whole, live food supplements to make up for any differences that you need.

    Good luck!
    God bless!

im just scared of peoples judgements and the fact that i might go overboard on eating meat. i wanna be comfortable in eating it in moderation when im craving it but i don't wanna make it a habit. i wanna be able to choose vegetables over white meat or have them both in the same meal if i want.

If you are craving something, it's your body's way of telling you that you need a certain nutrient... craving sweets, you need some natural sugars so try a nectarine or peach.

Craving fat.. add some coconut oil, butter/cheese from grass fed cows into your diet.

Craving salt, go get some unrefined/unprocessed sea salt to add to your food.

Craving meat... well, obviously you need more protein.

    Check out this website, http://www.unsinc.info/nutrition-response-testing.html
Click on "contact us" and tell them that you are looking for a Nutrition Response practitioner in your area. I truly believe that this can help you!!!!

Don't be scared to play with your diet. If you're craving meat, then you need more protein. Plain and simple. Just be sure to add it into your calorie count for the day.

Don't worry about people's judgments. I mean seriously.. WHO is going to judge you for eating chicken? Other than the hard core vegetarians who are anti-meat for everybody. This is YOUR body and YOUR health. Who cares what they think?!??!

If you're craving it, portion out how much you need for your calorie needs.. and then only put that on your plate. Of course you can have meat and veggies in the same meal. One of my FAVORITE meals is chicken stir fry.. And honestly, when I make it for myself it DOES have more veggies than meat in it.. and I'm HAPPY being an omnivore. LOL

    :hugs:
As long as YOU are in control of your food, and not the other way around.. then you don't have to fear food. Most things in moderation are fine. And that goes for meat. And what is "moderate" for me, may be "excessive" for you.

You're doing a great job. Don't let your fear be your downfall. Don't let fear be the thing that keeps you from being healthy!!!!! And of course, we're here for you! Feel free to friend me if you want!!

    God bless!
  • Like I said earlier, I think the most important thing is to stop creating a deficit. You're only netting something like 100 calories a day, so you're going to keep losing weight whether you eat chicken or not.

However, your diet is not other people's concern. Don't worry about us judging you; we're in charge of ourselves, and that's quite enough.
