Fruit & sugar

Hi everyone,

I feel like I've been doing a decent job meeting most of my nutrition goals but I ALWAYS go over on sugars. I know that fruit is my problem. (ok, and ice cream. I try to cut down on that though)
Is this really bad? I mean fruit is supposed to be good for you, right? I try to eat veggies too but I'm really a fruitivore.

yep, I love fruit more than veggies too. I figure fruit is a natural sugar - so if you are not diabetic - it is good for you! much better than the sugar in cookies and (hate to say it) icecream.

for some yeah that sugar will effect the weight loss, for others not at all. if it does not seem to be effecting your loss negativly the you are okay.

but sugar is sugar, and though fruit is healthy you shouldnt overdue it

I like all the above comments, but I will share my own perspective......for me, during my weight loss phase, I avoid fruit. This just helps my speed up my weight loss. Once I go into maintenance, I can add them back in, but for now, they will just hinder my weight loss. I keep my sugar around 30 a day.

I agree with luv2ash. I really limit my fruits because I think it is a trigger for me. Bananas are killers! If I have 1 banana, I can't have much more than that in a day. I like to make fruit slushies with strawberries and they fulfill my need for sweets. ;-)

I wouldn't worry about it too much but wouldn't overdo it either. The fructose (fruit sugar) in the fruit comes with fiber (as long as you eat the fruit and not just the juice) which is really good for many reasons. The fiber slows down the digestion of the stuff and prevents the kind of insulin reaction you'd get to the same sugar if you had it straight up (like in a coke or candy) for lack of a better phrase.
