Advocare-What do you think about it?

Based on multiple conversations with my Doctor, I am of the opinion that if you are eating right and exercising, your average person doesn't need supplements. With that said, I have heard some great things about Advocare and testimonials from my own friends who have used it about how great they feel. I am curious to know what others think about it.
Now.....keep in mind, I have been eating a healthy, well balanced diet and have been exercising consistently (cardio and strength)for the last 8 months and plan to continue this new healthy lifestyle so it is NOT my intent to use Advocare or any other "fads" to lose more weight. I am simply wondering what your take on Advocare or other supplements is? Do share.

It's a pyramid-scheme fad. I have had multiple personal trainers try to hawk that crap on me. The minute they do, they are no longer my PT. The ingredients aren't really any different from most generic protein powders on the market, and most of the vitamins in it are synthetic, which your body can't break down anyway. Waste of money.0

I looked into it once. I agree with the above post. However, in today's market.... you don't get the nutrients you need from our foods. Even when you are eating healthy. THe soils don't provide what they use too. So, supplements are important!!!!! I choose to go with SHakeology. It's amazing to read about all the wonderful ingredients and where they come from, (where the soils are rich with nutrients!)
Such as:
Astragalus (china) it helps strengthen muscle mass and helps improve your metabolism, circulation, and breathing, while it helps speed healing too.
Sacha Inchi ( Peru) Research at the university of Life Sciences in Prague, reveals that this is ideal for young and old alike- improving digestion in children and also helping to provide a wide range of benefits for the elderly.
(taken from the booklet - Shakeology book 1)
And this is just a pinch of what's in it!!! Lots more super foods with lots more benefits!0 -

Thank you for your comments. Are there any supplements out there that you recommend for muscle toning and elasticity while eating a low calorie diet or do you think it's even necessary if you're already eating healthy and exercising?0 -

I personally do not believe in supplements. Contrary to what the other poster mentioned (and Shakeology is another one of those pyramid-schemes that I was referring to, btw), I firmly believe that you can get all of the nutrients that your body needs from a balanced and healthy diet. Then again, my field of study in nutrition was more whole-foods based, as opposed to the studies of supplementation, so maybe I'm biased in a sense. But if you are eating whole, unprocessed foods, moving your body, and avoiding toxins (cigarettes, drugs, alcohol - minimally)...then you're on the right track!0 -

I was told this very same thing by a nutritionist and I guess sort of feel the same way, but in a more uneducated way b/c I don't really know how to eat "non processed" foods. Sounds silly but it's been part of my life forever. Is that the same as eating "clean"? I am no moron but I am not really sure what determines unprocessed versus processed versus clean eating. Silly probably but it's not something I've explored deep enough I guess. I am not really interested in getting in on some fad thing to lose a bunch of weight b/c I have already proven by losing 61 lbs since march 1 that it can be done with eating right and exercise. Plus, I am in this for a new healthy lifestyle and don't need to be adding a bunch of stuff that I don't really need. Which is why I asked the original question. Thanks for your comments.

I would recommend raw hemp protein shakes. It is a whole food and you can get great benefits from it. That is if you are not concerned about your eating. I add it to my smoothies a lot.0 -
I apologize to get into this on this thread but the company I am with is NOT a pyramid-scheme. There is no scheme or fad. Shakeology is a whole food based shake that I happen to LOVE. As for the company that offers this shake, it does offer a MLM (mulit level marketing) opportunity which happens to be very successful and I see it being around for a long time.
It took 2 years to make Shakeology and one of the founders is Darin Olien. THis is taken from his site....
'Darin Olien founded Darin’s Naturals in 2005 as a means to integrate the numerous concepts related to health, nutrition, and exercise gained while acquiring a BA in Exercise Physiology/Nutrition, an MA in Psychology, and over a decade of experience working in several health-based industries.'
From what I have learned about Shakeology is truly impressive to me and I highly recommend it. IF you are someone who is not interested in it, that's fine. However, I just wanted to give my opinion.
AngieMMc ... Congrats to you on your success so far. As far as the muscle toning is concerned, be sure you are strengthen training!!! I try to get in protein within an hour of a strength training session. Either with a protein shake or protein bar. (I recommend the P90X protein bars... they are tasty!) As far as skin elasticity.... avoid sugar! I've been reading up on sugar and it's bad in many ways and the loss of skin elasticity is one of those nasty side effects. Keep up the exercise and eating healthy!!!0
