Log a Bite of food???

I'd like your opinion (anyone and everyone's)... how does one log a bite of something? Or do you??

Example: My son was eating a corn dog the other day. I don't eat corn dogs anymore, but when he set his plate down, I stole a bite from one. How do I log that??

  • Heck no.

Depends how much of a bite it was. if you're worried about it, just find an entry here and add 0.1 or 0.2 of a portion.

Bites here and there DO add up... but if it was just one bite, I wouldn't sweat it. Too much trouble for what it's worth!

lol if you wanna log it just go with what you think...a bit wouldn't be much though less than 50 calories I'd guess. Just try to have 50 or so left over today?
  • No. I steal a bite of my husband's ice cream a few times a week, instead of eating a whole bowl! I don't log it. But I assume this is not always an exact science anyway, more of a guideline. If what I'm doing isn't working, I make changes. I don't think that bite of ice cream is standing between me and a size 8 pair of jeans.

yes, because some days I take a bite here, a bite there, I don't want to feel those are "free", so I will log either a tiny portion (say, .1 of a corn dog, depending on how big the bite was), or I will "quick add" what I think it was calorie-wise.

I am all for being honest with myself, and logging as correctly as I can.

FTR, I don't eat corn dogs..If I was going to "cheat", it would be with GOOD food! LOL

I log it. But if you are stressing over it and have extra calories for the day I wouldn't worry about it.

I log everything. All those little bites add up.
  • I log ALL my bites to stop myself from doing that. Logging them is annoying, and I find that I do it much less now that I force myself to log them. HOWEVER, be honest with the size of your bite. It if was 1/4 of the hotdog, don't log it as 1/10. Round up, not down. At least that's what I do.

if it's a high calorie food I usually will add some quick calories, but if the count is negligible I just make sure it's not "a bite of this here and a bite of that there" in a sort of way of tricking myself.

I do my best to log every bit that goes into my mouth but sometimes it's a piece of fruit, a tasting of someone's cooking or a small bit of someone's food for taste. What I try to do is leave about 50 calories or so left over that I set aside as misc overages. I don't try to make it a habit but sometimes it happens and instead of stressing the details, I just lump it all together and make sure that I account for it.

I agree that every little bit adds up with time. But if that was your only slip up for today/this week, you should be ok.

I do, but just to keep myself honest. Like other people said, it depends on how big of a bite it was - but if a corn dog is 150ish calories, it's pretty easy to get about 1/5 of it in a bite - which is 30 calories. Personally, I'd want to remember I ate it, but if you're not worried about, then, well...don't worry about it!
  • I log EVERYTHING, it actually helped me stop picking, because I knew I had to add it in and it put me off eating it!
  • Every bites is approximately 25 calories w/ a little variation depending, veg/ salads less, fried food and dense foods, 5-10 calories more.!

No, that seems like an unhealthy obsession.

It depends what it is. I am sometimes offered small chocolates a work, which I never know exactly what kind they are. If it's sweet I log 50, if it's something else I either ignore it or put it at 25 to keep me in check later.

Exactly!! This is what keeps me from eating while I cook dinner. I log everything that goes in my mouth because if I give myself an inch I'll take a mile so I have to be rigid. Since logging little bites in are really annoying, I just don't eat it
