  • Oh, yeah. It's very normal. Learn how to make your favorite junk food in a healthy way. You'll never experience those cravings again!
  • I'm not sure how you've gone about the diet change, but I personally think it totally is. For this very reason, I decided from the start I wouldn't straight up cut out junk food. I just eat it in moderation, I measure out servings (usually by calories rather than actual serving size so that I have room for real food in my day) and make sure it's rare when I do give in. I don't, for myself, believe in cutting out food I like. HOWEVER, it's been a month and a week or so since I started watching my diet and I DO find that I actually don't crave junk food much. I allowed myself to eat fast food the other day and actually got sick and could barely eat it (not to mention, I looked at the calories and was like 'Heck NO I'm not wasting half my day's intake on this, lol, it didn't even fill me up!). It takes time, but you and your body alike will get used to the intake change :)

If it helps, my doc told me to just stay of junk food until you know that you're eating it because you consciously make the choice, rather than because your body craves the tastes it's used to getting :)

Feel free to fr for support!
  • I so know how you feel. For me if someone brings me pizza I cant say no. So stay strong.

exactly!!! I too was so close to just going out for pizza but I am happy I didn't my homemade healthy food is so much better/satisfying.We still have burgers and fries in my casa... almost every week, but they are boca burgers on thin wheat buns (mine has no cheese) and we do baked steak fries (no deep frier = healthier LOL) And I haven't made my own pizza but when I feel like it I go to the freezer section at the store and pick out an all natural pizza.. Amy's is good and so is Newman's :-)

Like some of the other members mentioned..don't cut out junk food completely. Many times when people do that, they end up bingeing. This is a lifestyle change not some diet. We have to teach ourselves that it's okay to eat some sweet or maybe a little greasy, but it has to work well with our day. Now I'm not saying eat a bunch of greasy foods every day..but once in a while is fine. What I've done before is if I know I'm going out to eat, I'll either put in a really good work out that morning or plan out my meal of what I'm going to have at that restaurant. Changing our eating habits won't happen over night but we have to teach our selves and have control on our portions. If I had cut our everything I loved, I wouldn't be on MFP for this long and I've been here since January.

Another good comment was making it at home if you can, this way you know what's all in the food and you can decide on the healthier option.
  • I crave junk food as well, today was a coworkers birthday and someone got a cake, I admit I did have a piece and wanted more but I forced myself to leave the room so I didn't go back for more. I do agree that eating it in moderation is helpful so you don't binge but your tastes will change. For me eating fried food has become to taste just like crap and I don't even crave things like donuts and bakery items anymore. I can't even eat "fast food" anymore after two or three bites all I taste is salt and the fries are horrible and the next day I am just sick. You have to learn what you can eat without over doing it and what tastes bad. It will come. Hang in there. Plus putting your food in the journal and seeing the calories helps when you crave something. "Do I waste calories on this?"
  • if everytime you feel like having junk food you instead eat a piece of fruit you will train your brain to crave fruit instead of junk food. I was sceptical when I read it, but a month later it's working.
