I read alot of threads talking about these various dvd programs but never having used or know anyone personally that does can you guys give me a run down on what the main ones are, what equipment is needed (just dvd, or weights, bands etc) & how they work (do you just do one dvd per week, or complete the dvd in full & then repeat for a period of time until you are able to do in one go etc)

thanks

  • I bought Insanity.

Beach Body is the company that sells these products.

Insanity does not require any equipment except your body. The program is set up to elevate your heart rate for so long and then you have 60 seconds of rest. It is high impact and a lot of work but definitely helps shed the inches and gain muscle mass.

Google Beach Body and most of the programs have videos that go along with it.

I've done Insanity: 60 days, it's more cardio based, nothing needed except for your bodyweight. The dvd's are roughly 45 minutes long for the first month, and an hour in the 2nd month.

I'm doing P90X currently: 90 days. More strength based. Some weights + pull chin bar needed, if you don't want to buy these you can also use resistance bands but I've had no experience with these so don't really know how they work. The dvd's are between 45 minutes and an hour, apart from yoga which is 90 minutes!

They both have several dvd's and a timetable that shows you which dvd to do on which day. It's typically a 7x a week program in that you do a workout everyday, but the last one is a stretch or rest day.
Edit: You don't have to do them everyday if you feel that's too much though, I do them 2-5 times a week (still doing every dvd in the timetable but it will take me longer than the 60/90 days to complete) Again it depends on your goals, and how much time you want to spend using the dvds in total.

I have done P09x and am doing Insanity right now.

P90X - is a strength training program. You workout 6 days a week and the dvds range from 20 minutes - 1 1/2 hour. (just the Yoga is 1 1/2 hour) The only equipment you need is resistence bands since they modify all the exercises but you can use weights and a pull up bar depending on what you prefer to use. I used reistance bands for the pull up exercises and hand weights for the rest. Its a great program and I have a client that lost 56 lbs in the 90 days.

Insanity - is more cardio based. There is no equipment needed. The dvd's range from 40-60 minutes. The program is 60 days instead of the 90 days with P90x.

It really just depends on what you are looking to do. If you are looking to lose weight fast then I would say Insanity but if you want more tone then defnitely P90x.

I am a coach with Beachbody so message me anytime you have questions!!!

Beachbody is the company that developed the programs, and each program comes with a nutrition plan and a schedule telling you what dvds to use each day. Every 30 days the schedule changes, which confuses the body and maximizes results.

P90X is mostly extreme strength training using weights, bands, pull-up bar, and your bodyweight. (90 days)

INSANITY is EXTREME cardio, made mostly for those who are already fit. (60 days)

Turbo Jam is dance/kickboxing based cardio (fun!) (30 days)

TurboFire is Turbo Jam x10 and includes high intensity interval training for maximum fat burn (90 days to 5 months, your choice)

    There are many many more!

Thanks all for the breakdown & private messages.

Will def check them out. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week (have a PT who has a program running for me already, core, strength & a little cardio) & burn around 800 cals per session.

I would class myself as moderately fit & according to MFP I (still) need to lose around 25lbs so really want something that just gets the fat off in between the days I do my trainer led workout at the gym.
