I broke up with my scale

After doing so well for three days...great nutrition, awesome logging, two hour workouts, lots of water etc., I got on my scale and it said I had GAINED 5 pounds. :noway: As a fellow MFP'er pointed out, I would have had to have eaten an extra 17,500 calories to gain 5 pounds, and as another pointed out, I shouldn't weigh every day. So I took my scale to my trainer and asked him to keep it for a month, because even though I knew I was doing the right thing, seeing that number made me want to just give up. :ohwell:

Not being able to weigh in this morning was TOUGH for me! I was surprised to find just how dependent I am on my scale. It really did have the power to tell me whether I was going to have a good day, or a bad one. No matter how much I loved it, it was mentally abusive, so I broke up with it. :brokenheart:

Anyone else have an unhealthy relationship with their scale?

    you are my new hero!
i swear those things must have been invented by the devil!
You made a great choice and I'm sure you won't regret it. Now, did you take a picture of your trainer's face when you have her/him the scale? that must have been funny!

I weigh in before and after every meal, every morning every night, but I don't let fluctuations bother me too much. Even though sometimes they just don't make any sense to me....
  • I don't own a scale, so I weigh at work at the RN station. The fear of looking obsessive keeps me down to two or three days a week when I pretend I don't mind having an audience. lol

I haven't got one now, but I might end up with one.

    I do weigh every day
I do analyse where the numbers are and what they are doing.

BUT! because im just starting out, for the next few months I want to see what my relationship with food is like. I want to see if I go up or down in the same parts of the month.

I can only do that if I take regular readings. So I think it depends on what your intentions are, if your just going to beat yourself up about it then good idea to get rid! But if you can handle it then I think it might help you understand your body better.

Im hoping I will understand mine better and help me to lose weight in a better way!
  • My scale messes with my head! I want to break up cause I know we have a disfunctional relationship...but it's so hard to give it up! I need support.
