So I have been teaching ballet today from 9am-1 45pm, without a break. Do you think that walking slow (2mph), would be a good estimate? I am moving the whole time (except when marking attendance), sometimes jumping, 'running', and sometimes stationary, but moving, and working up a sweat. I don't of course dance full out , as I am walking around correcting. I just need some way of logging til I get a hrm.

  • is this your job or just on the side? if it's your job, you should set your lifestyle to active and not log your work. if its on the side, i'd log half as walking and half as mild stretching (for your more slow times)

There is a "dancing/ballet" option in your exercise diary, under cardio. You can log 1/2 the time, if this is something that you don't do every day, until you get a HRM. If this your dialy job, just change your profile to very active.
  • Yes, it is my job, my business, but we have had 8 week summer break, and it was during that time that I joined MFP. This weekend last year, I got a rare brain virus, spent 6 weeks in hospital, 6 weeks on a zimmer frame, then learnt to walk again and moved back home in late November. Went back to teaching (30 minutes at a time,) in January (as my brain got overwhelmed with more, and the damage was done to the part of the brain responsible for co ordination), so slowly slowly, I worked up to being able to teach for an hour at a time a couple of days a week.

Today was the first day I did such a long time, without using my stick... I am still pacing myself, as if I overdo it my brain just shuts down and someone else has to take over for me.

Yes, so it is touch and go at the moment, how much I can manage, how often... and I am nowhere near as physical with it as I was a year ago.....

But yes, I think adding some of it as stretching is possibly a good idea.. I really want to know what I can treat myself to for dinner!

Thanks for all your ideas (putting it down as ballet seems a bit fraudulent, as I am far from what I consider to be 'dancing full out" even tho I am giving my all!
