Calorie Counters - to buy or not to buy?

Hi all! This is actually my first time posting - wha-hoo! I've been on a weightloss journey for awhile and I've totally encompassed that it's all about calories in/calories out and a lot of hard work and motivation. Nothing else with stick. With that said, I have been enquiring about some tools to help move the process along. And here comes the question....
I have looked into getting a Body Media Fit or BodyBugg calorie counter. I've researched them (and I'm leaning more towards the Body Media). I have no qualms with the upfront cost of the device, but both involve having a subscription in order to continue using it - that was when I was questioning if it's worth it. Does anyone out there have one of these types of devices? If so, do you think it's worth it/is it accurate/which one do you have? And do you know of a way to have an accurate calorie counting device without needing a subscription to use it?
Okay, that's enough questions on that for now! Thanks for reading and happy vibes to everyone trying to healthify their lifestyle!

Hey there, my opinion is this...do a little more research. You can go to Wal-mart and check out their HRM's or go to sears or another fitness store and ask them what would be best for you to use. Hope this helps0

I haven't used a heart rate monitor, I've just stuck with the ones on the cardio machines at the gym. But, for me the exercise and increased daily activity are what's most important for my weight loss (not the calorie deficit) so I've been content with the estimates, even though I know they're usually high.0

Thanks for the imput! Just to clarify for anyone reading. I have used a heart rate monitor, but the Body Media fit and BodyBugg devices are a bit different and more elaborate than just a HRM.
They are arm bands that are 90% accurate in recording your calorie deficit throughout the entire day, even while you're sleeping. There is also the fitbit which most reviews are saying is just a "glorified pedometer." So, I was curious if anyone has used the Body Media or Bodybugg - but I'm also curious about quality HRM's that count calories.
Any advice is helpful!0 -

Im thinking about the same thing, to get eaither a body bugg or the body media fit..But didn`t want to pay the additional monthly cost..
I went online, and asked someone there...Here is here reply...
Jennifer: It will continue to display your calories burned as long as the bodybugg still has enough memory left. Jennifer: The bodybugg armband will hold up to 14 days worth of data but by that time the armband needs the application to unload the data from the armband and transfer it to the server.0 -
Anyone else out there with HRM/BodyBugg/Body Media Fit/Calorie Counter advice?0

I use a HRM by New Balance. It has a chest strap and I program it with my body weight, gender, target heart rate, workout intensity, etc. The chest strap is comfortable, I don't even notice I have it on (and at Zumba class, no one notices it either). It tells me how many minutes I have spent at my target heart rate and how many calories I have burned, the highest & lowest heart rate. I really like it, have had it for a year now with no troubles with it. It was about $60 and I have not regretted the purchase yet. It will save up to 10 workouts (there is a bunch of data saved for each workout). It also tells the time and times the length of the workout.0

Hmm... I've always heard of the chest strap HRM's being extremely efficient I just never thought I'd want to always put it on during the workout and I was worried about comfort. Thanks for the post!0
