I am curious what everyone thinks is the best heart rate monitor. I was doing some research online.

The best HTM is the one that gets you out the most. For me, that is a Suunto M5. I've got the bike pod, might get the foot pod at some point... wish the GPS pod was a little more sophisticated.

    I'm listening too.
Are there any good HRM, reasonably priced, that are also pedometers?

I have a Polar too, but not sure what model (it's pink and I paid about $120 for it if that helps). My friend has one that she paid about $50 for and I'll tell you, it doesn't work as well. It registers her calorie burns way too high IMO.

Also, I was leery of getting one with a chest strap, but all the reviews I read said that the chest strap gets you the best reading, as opposed to the kinds that you put your fingers on every few minutes. A bonus there is that the machines at your gym will read your chest strap signal too, so they'll give you a more accurate reading when it comes to how many calories you burned.

Just my .02! I love love love my HRM -- it really is a motivator to know how many calories you're burning!

I have Polar and Garmin. Both have worked great for years and through lots of abuse. In the past I had Timex and Sportsline. Both of them were dead within a year.

I got a Polar F1 off Ebay for $40. It doesn't track calories, but seems to give an accurate reading of my heart rate, and the time spent doing whatever. I then have a spreadsheet where I plug in age, weight, time, and avg heart rate and it spits out the calories, using the formula found: http://www.livestrong.com/article/73315-calculate-calories-burned-based-heart/

I have a Suunto M2, it's not super fancy or anything. It tracks your heart rate and calories burnt, does the job. Pretty reasonable price. The thing that I like most about the Suunto brand is that if you happen to work out at a gym, nearby exercise machines (that you're not currently using) won't pick up your HRM. I had a lot of issues with Polar and other nearby machines picking up my HRM, or vice versa.
