Calorie deficit mistake?

According to the site, my BMR is 1593. To lose one pound a week, I would need a deficit of 500 cals per day, but the site has my daily goal set at 1490. Is it just me or does this not make sense? That would give a weekly deficit of 721 cals, right?

Your BMR is not your usual daily calorie burn. Like the description says, that is how many calories your body burns if you sat in bed all day and did NOTHING. Walking around the house, fidgeting, standing, and digestion all burn more calories. Really, the deficit is from the calories required to maintain your weight on a normal day and the new calorie goal.0

You do not want to take your calorie deficit from your BMR. You want to take your deficit from your TDEE. TDEE is based on your BMR and your activity level. Figure those out and then deduct the 500 calories.
Why not just follow MFP's recommendations? If you put in your information accurately, it will tell you a good starting point calorie-wise.0 -
