Gertrude’s Nose Hike in Minnewaska and Hiking Tips
Anyone ever hike Gertrude’s Nose Hike in Minnewaska???How'd you like it?? I'm planning on hiking it next Sunday and I'm fairly new to the hiking experience! I was going to buy new hiking boots but I've been told that I shouldnt try to break them in for the first hike or I'm going to end up with blisters? Is that true? Other then that I'm just looking for some hiking tips from experienced hikers! The hike is 5 total Miles, the accumulative Elevation Gain is 600 feet, and its a pretty clear path nothing too intense. I'm so excited!

Hello!
I hike at least 4 days a week! In fact, I just got back from a weekend backpacking trip. I'm not familiar with the trail you mention, but 600 feet of elevation gain should be relatively easy if you're in decent condition. You should be able to hike terrain like that with crosstraining/walking shoes. But if you want to get hiking shoes, that kind of hike would be perfect to break a new pair in. For typical day hiking, you won't need heavy, tall hiking boots. I actually do almost all my hiking in lightweight trail runners or low-top hiking shoes. I've worn new boots out of the box on 10-15 mile hikes, and never had a problem with blistering. The hiking shoes they make these days don't really need the break-in time that boots from 10-15 years ago needed.
Have fun on your hike! It's a beautiful and fun way to get in better shape.0 -

Thanks so much for the response! I was going to go with my cross training sneakers but i just wanted to make sure! theya re SAYING its 600 feet of elevation gain but im seeing other reviews on the trail that are painting a more rigourous picture loll. it may just be the differen routes they take tho im not quite sure! it sounds like an easy enough hike i just wasnt sure about the shoes. thanks again!0
