Is your GOAL weight over, under, or the same as RECOMMENDED

I noticed a lot of varying responses in weight goals in another thread (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/331249-how-tall-are-you-and-what-is-your-goal-weight), so I was curious what end of the scale your goal weight is.

Is your goal weight on the low end or under the recommended weight for your height/build?

Is your goal weight on the high end or above the recommended weight for your height/build?

Or is it smack-dab in the middle.

Here are two charts with different information:
CHART 1: http://www.no-iron-fitness.com/images/IdealBodyWeight.gif
CHART 2: http://mioglobal.com/files/image/3500 CC/Height to Weight Chart.JPG

According to Chart 1, I am overweight!
and according to Chart 2 I am nearly underweight haha! My goal weight is on the low-medium end of Chart 1, however.

Share your info according to these charts :D

My current end goal is above the recommended weight. When I get to it I might reevaluate but I'm more concerned for health than simply weighing less for my body type.

I would follow chart 2 as that is what is more commonly found from what I've seen and seems much more reasonable. According to that, my end goal is close to the higher end which I would definitely be happy with.

The first chart contradicts everything I've ever seen. The 2nd chart is what I've always seen.
    I'm 5'3" and my GW is 125. So I'm good :)

My current goal is the top of healthy BMI (using my bone structure too not just height). My ULTIMATE goal is pretty smack in the middle for most charts.

For the ones you posted my UG is right in the middle of both of those.

All the charts and BMI etc are only PART of the picture though. I'll likely never meet my ultimate weight goal because I intend to carry more muscle now than I did when I was at that weight at 17/18, but I'll still probably be a smaller SIZE and that's what's more important to me :D

According to those I'm at the lower end of healthy for the first one - and underweight by 4lb for the second one.

I think it's all about what looks right on your body, you can't really go by simple charts like that, because everyone is built differently!

    Hi! :)

My goal weight as a 5'7" female is 150. on one that is the one pound above the upper number, on the other it's pretty much in the middle. It would put my BMI at 23, which is the upper end of normal for my height range on a BMI chart. I figured since I have so much to lose, setting my first goal any lower would be silly for me and a bit discouraging. I will see how I feel with my weight and how I feel about how I look when I get there and readjust if I want to lose more. :)

The first chart seems very low - I am wayyyyyyy overweight on that one.
The second one looks more like the standard ones I've seen - I'm still a bit overweight on that one but not by too much.
My goal weight (68kg) will bring me just to the top of the "healthy" BMI range or to the top of the second chart.
I'm pretty happy at the size I am now, so my goal is going to be be to stick within a few few kg either side of 70kg (154 pounds). This is still officially overweight for my height, but not by very much and seems a reasonable size to work with.

My goal will be WAY outside the recommended weight. The BMI charts don't work for my body type. It says I should weigh 185-ish, but I'll stop at 225#. I wrestled 185# as a high school freshman and didn't have much fat. 225# was my senior football weight and most of my time in the Navy. 185# would make me look like a concentration camp victim.

Bottom line is that the BMI tables don't work for everybody. They're set up for mesomorphs with average muscle mass and average skeletons. If you're an endomorph (me) or ectomorph, or have muscles outside the average, BMI isn't going to work for you.

according to chart 1, at 5'7" and 122lbs, i am within my range, although at the very bottom.

according to chart 2, i am below the "low" range for my height.

those charts, though, don't take into account the fact that i am very fine-boned, and my "happy" weight (where i feel the best and no pudgy bits) is about 115 ~ 120lbs. i am aware that my weight goal is, in fact, underweight according to BMI, but i really think all that stuff is BS anyway... the weight where i feel and look my best is the weight that i wanna be!!

My goal weight is smack in the middle. I would rather like to keep going when I get there if I can and get closer to the bottom end, but I'm not sure I can realistically stay there, so the middle of my healthy weight range is my overt aim.

According to the first link, my goal is good.
According to the second, it's low.
According to BMI, it's on the very low end of healthy.

    I'm 5'6" and my goal is 120.

Agreed! I am 5'7" as well and between 115 and 120 is where I am most comfortable. Anything over that just carries heavy on my body. Everyone is always shocked when I tell them what my goal weight is but it sounds thinner than the way I carry it.

According to the first chart my goal weight is significantly over. Per the second, my goal is under the high end but over the middle.

My goal weight isn't specific though. My goal is to retain my lean body mass while dropping my body fat percentage to 20%. If I succeed, I'll reach my target at 145-147 lbs. I'm 5' 3.75".

I am 5 '2' and my goal weight is 100. This puts me on the very low end. However, I have a very small frame.

My target weight is over chart #1 and at the higher end for #2. But it's a weight I maintained comfortably when I was in my teen and 20's. I am in my 40's now and I don't perceive being able to get much lower. It also just happens to be the weight that takes me out of an overweight BMI and into "normal." All of that said, when I get there, I plan to work on my body fat if I need to.

According to the first one my goal is closer to the higher end of the range, whereas in the second one my goal is 1lb lower than the target weight. Both ranges have the same lower limit for me, it's only the upper limit that makes the difference, the second one has it 13lbs higher than the first. For some of the heights though, the ranges have huuge differences.

My goal weight fits on both charts, though it's at the low end. According to the first one I'm still overweight, though I'm already a few pounds below the target weight for the second one. I have more of a goal range weight than a pound weight in any case, and my goal range actually falls right between the low weights listed on both charts.

I love comparing charts like that and seeing what a huge difference is recommended, better to go by how you personally feel than what ANYONE tells you your goal should be.

That first chart seems harsh. My goal weight is 135, and I'm 5'5'', so I'm at the high end of normal for chart one, and smack in the middle for chart 2.

I didn't base my goal on a chart though, and if I change it, it will be because of how I feel/clothes fit and not what I read. :)

Mine would give me a BMI of 22.5 so it is in the middle of what is recommended for my height. I am 5'7" and my goal weight is 143 pounds.

The first chart seems to go from about 18/18.5 bmi to about 22.7, it's a pretty good range to aim for unless you have a larger frame. My goal is in the low end for my height, but that's because I still look overweight in the midrange.
  • I am 5'2" and my original goal was 180 because I feel curvy and sexy at that weight. 180 is considered obese for my size so, my second goal was 160 because it is considered just over weight for my size. Now I want to get to 150 and have a breast reduction and have 10 pounds to gain back slowly. I know I will be considered overweight at 160 but, I really can not imagine being in the 101-136.7 or healthy range. I like having curves and being big is part of my identity!
  • My goal is 154 lbs, which is in the middle of the healthy range for my height (and gender!). To UK readers that's 11 stone. If I still feel fat at 11 stone I will keep going until I reach 140 lbs (10 stone) which is still in the healthy range.

I'm overweight by 2lbs on the first chart, whereas I'm 5lbs off 'ideal weight' on the second chart. My goal weight it at the lower end of the ideal weight on the second chart.

I am shooting for 115, one of the published "ideal" weights for a 5'3. Don't know if I can make it cause it's been rough

I've set mine to get myself out of the "obese" BMI range, so it's above my recommended weight. This is mainly because I have so much to lose I want to have a goal that 's not too far away!

I will probably carry on once I hit that goal, but I'm not particularly bothered by having a perfect BMI score because it's not a great way of measuring health.

I set my goal weight on a whim, without any research. According to the chart my goal number is smack bang in the middle of the recommended weight for my height. Fantastic!

My goal is high on the first one, middle in the second one.
I want to get to 110l-115lbs.
    I'm like 4 ft. 11 3/4 inches.
5ft in the morning, or when I wake up or whatever.

My goal is pretty fluid - somewhere between 120 and 135. If I take 125 as my "official" goal, that would put me at the top end on chart 1's range and pretty much in the middle on chart 2. I will be stopping when I am happy with the way I look and feel though.

I'm 5 feet even and age 50 with a goal in the 130s

On chart 1, my goal is WAY over (top is 110)

On chart 2, I'm in range (top is 137)

I would add that my "goal" is one that I am going for at the moment. The last time I was a normal weight was when I was age 24 with no medical issues, medications and fewer rounds of dieting under my belt!

How I look and sustainability will also factor in the ultimate goal.

I'm at my goal weight. I'm 5'3" and fluctuate between 124 and 127, which is high on the first scale and low to ideal on the second. I'm a szie 0 - 2 and fit, so I'd day the first scale is really pushing an unhealthy ideal.
