Is there a balance?

So I've been on mfp pal for a few months now. When I first started I was addicted. Logging every second, reading posts, adding friends, telling my friends. Then I thought this is ridiculous. I am a born again Christian and I truly believe I should be spending more time with God, reading my bible, worshiping etc. That is why I started this journey to take care of my body and be healthy.

BUT I got to the point I was weighing myself everyday etc etc. So I took some time off of mfp. (a couple weeks) I have a family and I realize I dont have all the time in the world to be on mfp and so focused on loosing weight. But I actually want to shoot for a healthy BMI and I dont think theres a problem with that. So when I got back on mfp I told myself I would track my calories and workout but only check up with my "friends" on here once a day. (All who have been very encouraging and helpful) The other thing is I was ONLY weighing myself once a month.

Its been a month and I've only lost 0.8 for the whole month. I dont know if thats an answer to prayer or something I've done differently. I really have stuck to my calories and worked out. I dont want to go back to my obsessive addiction of being on mfp each moment of the day. I dont, and will not give up but I'm really looking for a balance. Maybe I'm rambling and I know I'm on the right track but 0.8 lbs seems like such a small number. Looking for anyone who has gone though something similar

I honestly think that weighing yourself once per month is probably too seldom. You need to know that you're on track so try picking one day each week and weighing yourself that morning after you first wake and after you pee. The weekly weigh in will let you know if there are tweaks you need to make to your diet or exercise plan.

More than likely, it is just tweaks you need to make, too. If you're doing the same exact things you were doing when you started in regards to diet and exercise, you may need to up the intensity of your workouts or try something a little different in regards to your caloric intake or the makeup of those calories (less carbs, for example).

I used to weigh myself everyday, and got waaay too obsessed over it.

Now I weigh myself once a week, and it's so much better! Gives me a goal I suppose, instead of every day being "new", but once a month is definitely not enough to see how you're going, and motivate yourself.

Of course there are some people that never weigh themselves, because the scale isn't always true. You could be losing fat, but gaining muscle, so you are slimmer, but the numbers don't change as much.

The crazy part was my measurements were up. I couldnt believe it!
  • I've gone through periods of "addiction" with dieting, exercise, weighing myself multiple times daily, etc...

What usually works best for me is weighing in weekly (daily and I get too crazy obsessive, and monthly I allow myself too much slack) Good luck finding the right balance for you!

I believe God sends us things and people to help us in our journeys. He gives us the tools to do what we need to do. I believe the saying is "Ask God's blessings upon your work but don't ask him to do it". He led you to this site...
