There are so many reasons to lose hair: some illnesses (maybe undiagnosed), stress, bad diet / nutrition deficiency, heredity issues .... Some hair loss is normal, but if you are losing more than what you normally see in your hairbrush, contact your doctor!

Extreme diets (very low calorie), and extended calorie restrictions will cause hair loss.

Are you getting enough fat in your diet? Extremely low-fat diets will cause you to lose hair. Try to get at least 2 teaspoons of a healthy fat (olive, canola or flax oil, among others) into your diet each day.

I do go through, every few months, a kind of shedding period, though. Tons of hair comes out in my hands when I wash it or put in mousse, but after a month or so, it stops and I haven't gone bald yet.

(And as someone said, it CAN be a result of a medical condition -- including hypothyroidism. It can also be a side effect of stress.)

Apparently your hair loss is related to your thyroid get it checked when my thyroid is out of whack my hair falls out in clumps now its fine. For some people though it could be seasonal shedding. I have hypothyroidism.

I totally have this problem. I had my blood checked and it was OK. I am trying hard to eat a balanced diet but it really doesn't help!!
