Fluctuating weight

My weight has been fluctuating up and down by 2 pounds the last 2 weeks. Is that normal. I just want the scale to go down and stay that way consistantly.

  • I find fluctuation to be both normal AND frustrating. It will pass and then probably start again.

I Give up with my scales.
there always up and down. like i weigh myself Wednesday and im 188 then 2 days later im back to 190.
    Scales are horrible things.
  • Sounds like you have hit a plateau. Make sure you are eating your exercise calories, drink lots of water and get lots of sleep. I've been on a plateau for almost 2 months now. It is hard not seeing the scale go down, but remember that plateaus are not forever. Keep going and take your measurements. You are probably still losing inches. Good luck :)

Check out topics on sodium intake and how it effects your weight. I recall that for every 1000mg of sodium you eat per day you retain 2.2lbs of water. Hopefully this helps!

Fluctuation is normal. Especially for women. I always do this around the time of my cycle. This last fluctuation seems to be lasting longer than normal, but keep working at it. You'll begin to see losses again.

ALSO, make sure your diet and exercise are varied, so that your body doen't get too used to any one thing. For instance, I exercise aerobic one day, anaerobic the next etc.
  • I think we would like that :-) but unfortunately it doesn't always happen that way. Most experts recommend weighing in once a week. This allows for the daily fluctuations, or you may be at a plateau, that's when you feel that lifes not fair. But keep going, the rewards are much better than the down day's.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful advice. I appreciate it!
  • I have a love/hate relationship with my scale. It varies so much, that I just learn to figure I am somewhere in the middle. Use it as a guide, but dont let the fluctuations bring you down.

I allow for 4 pounds up before I am concerned.
  • I've been told it's better to weigh only 1-2 times a weeks. I still do it every morning though. It does go up and down alot and through out the day will change a good deal. I can lose 5lbs but it takes another week before i keep that 5lbs off for good. Slow and steady wins the race. lol.

How often are you weighing yourself? if you are weighing in several times a day then it will def fluctuate due to food and water intake...

I suggest you weight yourself once a week - on the same day and the same time of day - this will help and the number will be more accurate reading

Weight fluctuating is most likely due to water weight. Make sure you are drinking enough water. Don't just drink when you're thirsty. Drink a bottle or a tall glass of water every few hours or so. More water in = more water out. Ignore the people that tell you that too much water in a day can kill you. Too much water at once can kill you. Your body adjusts and you will urinate it out. I drink a little over a gallon of water a day.

As long as your calorie intake and protein/fat macro requirements are correct based on your TDEE and goals, then you should be losing the weight slowly and keeping it off.

    That's a scary thought.
