Okay you guys I'm going have to refresh myself!! I'm not doing good, I'm stressed out from college living and trying to maintain my own personal life.. I had to close my gym membership (Sept. 5,2011)
I'm living off of whatever comes to me, fast food to 4 bags of potato chips for a dollar.
I'm trying to keep gas in my car to go back and forth to school since I live off campus.
I had to stop my own personal health and treatment to my body.
I'm living off whatever my mom can give me, shes unemployed and gets paid every two week for unemployment.
Most of the time the money she gives me goes to gas.
I've gain weight in the past two months. I recently got in a car accident which I'm okay but get this it was a new car and I only had it for month. That added me to become more depressed, I'm a senior things are coming to a stop since my financial aid hasn't went in to progress anddddd its also cut into half of what I would normally get which would pay in full for my tuition now don't know when or how I will get the money. ummm body is tripling in size...brought a couple of things new, that dont even fit 'loose' anymore, I'm actually growing back into old stuff.

I feel like I'm failing mentally and physically.

Depression is really taking its toll of my life and I'm really just in need of encouragement from others college students or not, parents or not, anyone and everyone I'm being honest to you guys because I know someone is listening and reading. I dont know if being told 'its going to be okay' will be fine, but I do know that I will gain weight because I'm not in my healthy ways anymore, even my family has told me what happened? Not knowing that deep down I'm alone and its hard and to live and to be a healthier person really takes a lot and focus and right now this is not even a first priority like it was in January.

I hope someone uplifts me before depression takes its toll and eating myself in pain is all I want to do. I just want to eat and hide from everything...

Are there any options on campus for work? There are usually work programs that are part of financial aid and you could use that extra cash for things you need. School is tough. I did it with my husband and we were both working a couple of full time jobs at a time and going to school full time and supporting his daughter. We didn't sleep or have any fun, but we made it. You can do it too. Find a job as a waitress. The hours are extremely flexible. You can find places where you only work weekends, nights or early mornings.

Can so relate, my semester started and I just feel apart with the diet, but tomorrow is a new day and you can do it.
  • Hang on in there!
I've plateaued on my weight and have done for three weeks now! Just weighed myself today and I've lost 1lb but do you know what? It may not be much but it's 1lb less than yesterday. I too am juggling work, life and uni but be kinder to yourself it's a long journey.
    Sending hugs x

A simple walk in the sun can do wonders for how you're feeling. Baby steps in the right direction will work!
  • My heart goes out to you. Wish i could fix it all. Hang in there. Grab hold of your boot straps and pull. It hard, I know. Been there and done it. Sometimes a person just has to reach inside and dig out what they need from their soul.

I have been there before, this helped me so I hope it helps you. You have made it this far and honesty is such a giant step so keep going forward...

    AND IMAGINE
Recall the things that have held you back. And imagine how you now
    can get beyond them.
Think of the problems that have frustrated you so. And imagine how
you can now rise above them.
Look at how far you've come. And imagine how far you can now go.
Think of all that you've learned. And imagine what you can now do
    with that knowledge.
Consider all you've done in the past year. And imagine what you'll
    now be able to do.
You're now in a better position than ever to imagine the very best.
And what you can imagine will lead to what you can be.

I don't know yet until my financial aid has been given to me. I get work study every year, all the budget cuts and everything financial aid has become a burden this year. But I will look into the waitress jobs.

If money is tight, instead of eating your troubles away...workout instead. Go for a walk or a run. You don't need a gym membership to lose weight and get healthy. All you need is yourself. You could do some strength training at home too. If you don't have weights, no worries, start without them and then maybe use something you have in your home, like soup cans or water bottles. You could even fill the bottles up with something heavy like little rocks, sand or something. There is alot you can do without belonging to a gym. If you workout at home, you will also save the money that you would have used to drive to the gym.

If you have any workout DVD's, use them.

Good luck! Set your goals and always look at them to remind yourself why you are doing this. You deserve to be a healthier version of YOU.

yea, I say that every day :/ but I know I'll give in to my need for good health
  • I can relate! I am starting school October 10th in a super competative program. Minimum 30 hours a week of work. plus I work two jobs and have two babies and am planning our wedding for january....The ONLY thing that keeps me working on my diet is my daughters. For me its easier to find someone or something outside of myself to keep going for. I know I should do it for me, but when I am depressed I dont care about myself so finding something else may help you get through the hard stuff. Hope this helps!

make a changes for the better like going for a long walk when you feel sad or stressed find cheap healthy foods you can look for them on the internet I know it seems like it cost more to be healthy Go back to doing what made you happy most imporant of all Some times we can just hit hard times and seem lost in them I felt this way after hard times and moving back to my moms place (the worst) but it took months for me pull my self out of feeling like a faliure But I just set new goals for myself and stop focusing on the here and now I simply started to look foward and make the best out of it I pulles thru it

I'm not one to sugar coat things, so I'll tell you what you need to hear. While I understand your problems, we all have them. I worked 2 jobs and went to school full time, and still maintained a family life. Life is tough. If you're that depressed, see a counselor, they can and will help. As for keeping in shape, there are plenty of things you can do without a gym membership. Walk around the block, or rent a workout video from the library.

I hope things get better for you, I really do. But reality is life is work. You have to find a way to balance everything out.

1-If you are really depressed, then I would recommend going to the university clinic to see if they have any recommendations. I don't know if it costs money to go there or if they can write prescriptions. Where/are you on phentermine? If so, talk to your doctor. When I was on phentermine, it made me depressed because it depletes the serotonin from your brain. I had to go on antidepressants for about 6 months to rebuild my supply. Some people are afraid to go on anti-depressants because they don't think they could be at that stage...but it really works! If the type that you are given is making you feel blah or whatever, ask your doc to change you to something else. Also, some brands aren't expensive at all, and may even be able to get entire supply as sample packs!

2-Buying fast food and chips isn't going to help your weight or your pocketbook. When I was short on cash, I would make things at home in quantity that I could re-heat over the week and/or take to work/school. (i.e. spaghetti/chili/pinto beans/lasagna/taco meat for beef tacos/etc). On the whole, you can get a lot more for your dollar doing that, and it is a LOT healthier.

3-Your car/gas...yeah, that sucks. If your schooling is making it where you can't survive and you are relying on family, then you need to re-evaluate your lifestyle. Are you living in a place that is over your financial means...do you have cable...do you have a home phone and a cell phone...do you have texting/data plan on your cell phone...do you own a car that gets less than 20 mpg...all of these things are items that we can change, as well as watch you put in your mouth.

Main thing...step back, take a deep breath, and look at yourself. Tell yourself it WILL be okay. Then start writing down what will make it better, identify what on that list you can actually impact, then start on those items first.

    Good luck!

1...I don't think my depression is that bad, just COLLEGE DEPRESSION << if there is such a depression.
2...Well your a guy so that might fit your body type I would think..
3...My mom is paying for those things, I basically need a job that works around my schedule so I can maintain my own life. but gas is so killer that the money I will save up will either go to gas or something quick andddd studying ...nowhere in my healthy self do I see workout anymore<< thats why I'm here to think about what I'm doing and actually see what other people think..

Mal honey...don't give up! I often think of you. I'm here for you. Even if you just want to pick up the phone, call someone and scream as loud as you possibly can. I will be that person. There is always sunshine after the storm. Don't give up faith and know that things will get better. This is all part of a greater plan. Try to find healthy eating options even when needing to grab something quick. Waitressing jobs and hotel jobs are great for college students. :flowerforyou: **hugs**
  • I feel you. As a college student and mom (with a 90-minute-each-way commute) I know just how stressful it can be...and just how much it changes your priorities. I know it adds to the depression to put the weight back on, but (as I am doing for the moment), you may just have to accept it for the moment. I wish I could offer something more tangible. It's okay to give yourself permission to backslide for a while, just remember that it's temporary. And you are not alone...either in your situation, or in your life. People love you, and people are struggling. This, too, shall pass.
